Bradley Manning publicly came out as Chelsea Manning, currently top story on Google News:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/style/chelsea-manning-puts-transgender-issues-in-the-spotlight/2013/08/22/4c559a08-0b5d-11e3-8974-f97ab3b3c677_story.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/22/chelsea-manning-prison_n_3798223.html?utm_hp_ref=politics&ir=Politics etc.
(as usual, reading comments = bad.)
EDIT: could someone let me know what is wrong with
this article? I thought it was great, but it's apparently come under some strong, unspecific criticism from other trans people on Tumblr, and idk why. :/ I find nothing transphobic in there - just the opposite, in fact. I realise that the HRC doesn't have a good track record on trans people (but that's changing...?) and that's fuelling some of it, but that article itself seems completely innocent to the point I'd be seriously glad if more of the other news sources were following its example (the call to respect pronouns, etc).
