Attack on trans woman in Canada

i'm just going to put everything under a cut, because it's pretty heavy stuff, and there are transphobic and homophobic slurs used, too.

trans woman and performer Elle Noire was the victim of a shooting in her own home around 3 am this morning in Halifax, Nova Scotia by men posing as police officers.

as a trans halifax resident this is deeply saddening and frustrating. that the police are likely going to sweep this under the rug because she's low income, black, and trans absolutely makes my blood boil. to top it all off, the CBC has managed to interview her but the Halifax police have stated this is not a hate crime but they have not interviewed her

The victim of a shooting in Halifax says she was targeted because she's transgendered, but police doubt it was a hate crime.

Chris Cochrane, an entertainer who goes by the name Elle Noir, is recovering from a gunshot wound to her right arm.

She said her attackers yelled homophobic slurs as she was hit with gunfire at her Fairview apartment early Tuesday. She said she believes they intended to kill her.

"They were yelling, 'Tranny faggot, open the door, let us in, let us in,' which leads me to believe they knew who I was. I'm in a second-floor apartment. You know, you have to have a security key to get into the building.
