Gene therapy in general has a pretty hefty profit potential, and that's a huge part of the research that needs to happen to make this a practical possibility. So for now at least, I doubt that's really something we need to worry much about. Not to mention, they're spinning it as having potential benefits for menopausal cis women for just that reason--upping the financial attractiveness of their research agenda. So this discovery may actually be pretty lucky on the interest-from-greedy-pharm-companies score; now we have to continue the basic science to get the gene therapy delivery systems up to speed.

That's pretty awesome.

I hate to be nitpicky, but I can't be the only person bothered by their use of "gender" as a synonym for "sex." I know it's a colloquial mistake, but still. It rubs me the wrong way >:

Wow, yes, it was actually somewhat painful to read. I don't think I've read anything that's flip-flopped between the so-called "synonyms" so much. >:(
