Gender Fucked @ UA

Dear SUNY Albany,

Yes I am a male bodied individual with large breasts. Please fucking get over it. Being stared at, laughed at, snickered at, and called "faggot" "fag" "fairy" "queer" or having something obscene yelled at me have gotten severely old by now.

Yeah, I get a lot of this shit with my Uni. Even with official name-change paperwork, they're refusing to change it in the University database.

It sounds like you're having a really rough time with all the staff, though. :( May I ask, what's Reslife?

Thank you for sharing!

I hate to say this, but are you maybe at the wrong school? I've heard some terrible university stories in this comm, does anyone know of colleges that have good track records with trans folk?

I am considering re-entering college, so it does matter to me a lot.

Apparently the University of North Texas does, or so my therapist tells me. I'm here as a grad student and live off-campus, so I don't know about reslife and all that, but the staff at their student health center were very respectful about using my chosen name and pronouns when I went to get my flu shot. They don't let you use anything other than your legal name on you ID either, but the woman who took my picture said that they'd change all my records once I got a court-ordered name change.

Yeah, that's standard, I think.

But at least they were cool to you. It can feel so amazing to get that when you've gotten otherwise for long periods of time. I feel this way about Seattle, no one seems to care, most people call me "she" and such.

Of course I live in a queer neighborhood...

The University of Minnesota is doing pretty well. It's a big school, and it's not perfect, but they have a very active Transgender Commission that has done a lot of work to improve the general atmosphere and also work on specifics like bathroom access and housing. There is trans and queer specific housing there for undergrads.

I'm not, unfortunately, surprised by your story. Albany doesn't seem like the most queer friendly place and places that aren't queer friendly tend to be even less trans friendly. Also, I was a Chartwells employee and am not surprised by their treatment of you either. Now, I know I'm bitter at that job because they screwed me over when I got injured at work and to be fair I think my managers would have handled your particular situation better yours, but seriously. The right hand no talky to the left hand and I'm not convinced of how accountable the managers are. Did you try writing/calling head office? Much as it is full of bureaucracy, they do seem much more concerned with workers safety/rights at head office than the individual managers.

I was about to send this entry to somebody I know because it all sounded very familiar. Hi Alex, this is your friendly neighborhood genderfuck Gus. I've added you.

Stay strong, hon.

I am sorry. I fixed that. I wasn't thinking and just wanted to get it out on the web.
