Memo to the Karma Police

I get it. I did something wrong. I don't know what it was, but I'm sorry I did it. Now can you please back off?

My last post was Jul 25. Yes, it's been a while, but that fact is relevant to this particular bit. On that day, as I closed my post, I was heading to the DMV to register my car. I paid $56 to register my car (July 25), and realized that it's going to expire in February 07. The fine on that ticket was $54 (those number may be reversed, but that doesn't matter). I eventually decided not to fight the ticket, as I knew I'd never be able to get it below half rate, being as I *was* driving with an expired registration at the time, even though I didn't realize it. And the hours of time it would likely take me to go to court and try to fight just wasn't worth it.

So, recap thus far. Near death experience. Ticket. Full-cost registration for half-year coverage.

Now we're in to August. As you know if you read piscosubito's journal, we went up to Maine for a week or so. While there, poor little Ana got herself a nasty wound on her lip by falling on a watering can, one that bled all over the place. (Note to the Karma Police: not kosher taking out whatever I did on her!) But, prior to that, the day before we left, my computer dies.

Kaput. No warning. It had been perfectly fine one day, playing WoW when Rob was using it. Then I turn it on to send out an email, and blue screen. Great.

So two weeks of playing with that, and talking with Dell, and I get a shipment of replacement RAM. I put it in, and start up the computer. Still blue-screens. So I reinstall windows. Hey, it works, finally. There's still a few little quirks to take care of, but that's that. Next step, track down the software keys for all my games so that I can be sure I always have them. Yippee.

Go to yesterday, when two new events happen. First, now that I've finally got my computer back up and running, Suz's randomly decides to stop connecting to our wireless router. Not only can it not connect to ours, it can't detect it, nor any of the 5 others that are within range of the wireless card on my computer. Great. So computer issues, event one.

Event two. I randomly decide to check my bank account, because I know more payments for computer and car are coming up, and I want to make sure all those amounts are going to be ok, ensure I don't need to cut either of them back at all. I look at it, confused for a moment, at this "08/28 MMI*WWW.MUSICMA 888-814-2524 CA" purchase for $19.99. 8/28 was the Monday after we got back from Maine, and I'm 99% sure that I didn't make a purchase that day. I call the phone number listed, determine the rest of the URL is "tch.com", hop on that site, at which point I'm 100% positive I didn't make that purchse. Ok, fine. Maybe there was a clerical error or something. I pop off an email to them, with the intent of disputing the charge with my bank today (this was like 11 at night when I noticed.)

So today, I've forgotten about this, until Suz reminds me. So I hop online to their site again, go to my account summary to make sure I know what's going on. Lo and behold, there are two more entries. "09/05 YAHOO SEARCH MA 866-9246676 CA" for $300.00, and because that one brought my account under the balance limit, an additional $30.00 finance charge. Time for the next step. I call them up, and cancel the card. What I figure happened is that the *ONE* time I've ever discarded a card without cutting it up into tiny unrecognizable pieces (because it was a last minute thought before I went on vacation, I just tossed it), somebody snagged it and is using it. It expires 9/06, but since my new card has the same number, it's not like it's hard to do. So I call them up, and cancel it, and order a new card with a new number. Hopefully that'll take care of that. Then I print out the dispute form, and fill it out. It has to be notarized.

Fortunately, the notary is free. That actually surprised me, but I guess since it was a government building, it's cheaper (how, I don't know). Then I crossed the street to the post office. Delivery confirmation, and they charged me for priority mail without asking me. Which is fine, because I was debating whether or not to get the priority mail anyway.

But yeah. To recap: Almost wrecked my car. Traffic Ticket. Registration. Computer Woes (Part I). Split Lip. Computer Woes (Part II). Identity Theft. Oh, and the fact that Ana's first week of actual pre-school level day care she couldn't go to because she caught Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease from somewhere (we still don't know where).

Whatever I did, I'm sorry. Can we move past this now, please?
