So I came up with this idea last night. I was talking to M@t about routers and linux machines and stuff like that, and we got talking about how Linksys tech support is great, except like any place like that, the technician on the end still walks you through all the basic tests.
So I came up with the idea of the Geek Level. When you call tech support, you've gotten a geek level code in the past for tests that you will be doing on your own most times. Bitflag, and to make it more geeky, put it in hex. So you call up...
"Hello, Linksys tech support, this is Mike, can I help you?"
"Yes, Mike. My geek level is 0CB9, but I have a problem..."
"All right. For confirmation, can you tell me what the last test you performed was?"
"Yes, it was ."
"Excellent. What isthe problem?"
If you start picking up on other standard tests, they should get added to the geek level after like three calls or something. This is an idea that computer tech support places need to start using. Would keep those of us who aren't the generic idiot from getting frustrated by having to do the same tests/fix attempts that we've already been doing for the last half hour or so again just so the person on the other end believes us.
