Recreated from my calendar with comments based on whimsy and memory...
Thurs 20th Dec -
moonvoice came over! She helped me immeasurably with books and book decisions. Incidentally if you would be interested in my book collection on sale for $5 each, let me know :) (Of particular note is a bunch of older SF that I now have in ebook, like CJ Cherryh and others). Time with P is as always, glorious and given the task I was undertaking, she was incredibly supportive and so magical organising and decision making happened!!
Fri 21st Dec - Catchups with Nath, I took her to my favourite coffee place! She also helped me with books :)
Sat 22nd Dec - Wolfadawn was low in cuddles and so was I, so he came over and we watched Shortbus - I've been meaning to watch this for *ages* so it was fantastic to finally manage it!
Sun 23rd Dec - Carols! I already posted about this, but that I got to go, and that people came with me, making it fun and companionable was just *brilliant*, especially as I've been missing my Loves quite a lot.
Mon 24th Dec - Urgh heat, but absconded to Kyras' house and then played Cat-opoly with him and Darky (I lost, dreadfully) :P Fun! Also, air conditioned.
Tues 25th Dec - Merry Christmas!! K, Cam and I joined
prk and
amarillion for
amarillion's family Christmas. I made two saucepans of awesome gravy (it's my responsibility/talent) which was *only just* enough! K did his carving magic, and poor Cam has been ill and actually crashed out for most of the day with a fever, poor bunny. I love Christmas with this family, it's all the best bits of a family Christmas, but none of the crappyness that I know some of you have to deal with - we are and always have been openly poly and have been accepted the whole time with open arms. I will miss this deeply when I move. I was also wished well by the family for my journey and move, and it was heartwarming and all squishy - kind of like an extended family experience. We ate way too much, and lounged after lunch just enjoying the company.
Wed 26th Dec - OMG HEAT! Cam and I were home, and we spent the day moving very little, under wet towels in front of fans. K was working and apparently that was about as intense as you might imagine, for those working in retail just after Christmas. Horrid day, but glad I stayed home with Cam who was still horribly ill.
Thurs 27th Dec - More hiding from the heat, but with a friend who kindly supervised me driving around for the day doing errands and drinking coffee. We discovered that The Precinct does a really great breakfast if you're a fan of eggs in particular.
purrdence and D came over to look over my books and added a good year's worth of reading to their library :P We then headed off to the Swancon screening for 'The Hobbit'. It was beautiful, and incredibly enjoyable, but clear that there was a lot of (admittedly beautifuL) padding - glad to see it, plan to see again in the 3D/48fps version. Dinner after with friends and then dropped home by different friends looking over my books :3
Fri 28th Dec - Mostly a quiet day, but some op-shopping (achieved errands), and hanging out with Ali. Also introduced her to the Friday Night Crew, a quiet and lovely night, the highlight of which was sitting in the paddling pool chatting.
Sat 29th Dec - Revels party with friends. Homemade pizza, sparkling wine, happy kids and awesome company. The afternoon/evening was really awesome. Loved sitting in the cool spa chatting. Also, pavlova awesomeness!! Enjoyed
fe2h2o's pizza topping know how, and invented my own pizza: cream cheese base, bacon, mushroom and pear. I think that if after it was cooked a sprinkling of rocket would finish it off beautifully with the sharp peppery taste.
Sun 30th Dec - Arranged with Ali to pick
hipikat up from the airport upon his return from Melbourne. Enjoyed getting to do the driving, getting to fulfil something personally important to me, namely around meeting/being met at airports, introduced the others to The Precinct and their eggs for breakfast, dropped
hipikat off home, and then went to the QFC household to enjoy a Step Up movie marathon, co-hosting with
ascetic_hedony and introducing
samvara,
maharetr and
chaosmanor to the awesomeness. Consensus is that Step Up 4 is the best of the series and defies the usual rules of excessive sequels and diminishing quality, it works in reverse for this franchise. So far. Truly awesome day, with a bunch of some of my favourite people.
As you may have noticed, I've been exceedingly busy! Between that and the heat, explains why I've been writing so little, despite not working. I have things I want to write! I promise!
The good thing about the busyness, is that I am at least feeling as though I will have gotten a chance to catch up with a whole lot of friends over the past month, even if I don't manage *everyone* before I leave.
I am no closer to working out what to do or where to have a farewell gathering. I favour something like a picnic given the flexibility and low budget strain, but it's Summer and I find the heat debilitating, as do others I'd be hoping to catch up with. I could do something in the evening and that may circumvent the worst of the weather, especially if I have unexpected good fortune in choosing a day that randomly ends up not being heinously hot.... I am open to suggestions here. Central is also desirable for public transport purposes.
