So, on with the catching up on stuff...
Saturday I got sleep! I didn't need to be anywhere till 11, when I wanted to watch 'Trailer Park', though I did manage to be up and about much earlier than that and was social for a while.
Trailer Park was awesome, I sat in front of
the_informative who did magical things with my shoulders using his hands, and I returned the favour for
alkland. As usual, it was awesome to see all the stuff I can't wait to see!! There were several unexpected things shown however, which is my favourite bit - because it's all so delightfully unexpected and such a surprise! The guys on the panel did a great job of entertaining a -very- full room :)
I just remembered what I was doing till I went to the Box on Friday... I was printing awards ballots. It took far, far longer than expected.
After that I don't remember what I did, except that when I came back it was around 3pm. I know this because that's when RW and I started counting award ballots. RW was wonderful and was patient in explaining how to count optional preferential votes, and similarly patient when I was trying to apply said knowledge.
One element which too stuipidly too long was cutting up the freaking ballot paper, because it wasn't conducive to easy counting (take note future Ditmar admins), then there was the counting and paper shuffling, of which there was much. RW and I theorised that if you don't think there are too many categories, then we suggest counting the ballots to double check that you're right about this. We're confident that you will understand that statement after doing so.
It has to be said, that through the whole process of administering this beast, that the only perk was knowing the winners a day early. (Possibly I shamelessly taunted
girliejones about this, refusing to tell her anything.) That said... it's a cute perk, but doesn't actually offset the stress/time/energy involved.
5 1/2 hours later (Yes you did read that correctly...) we finished. Ditmars took over 4 hours, Tin Ducks just over an hour. In case you haven't heard me bleat this thanks loud and clear, the especial thanks, appreciation and love goes to RW who didn't have to spend essentially half of Saturday in a tiny room counting stuff with me, but did. I understand several of the nominees offerred to help, which is appreciated and yet, really not a possible thing :) Points for trying :)
I missed most of the costuming part of the Masquerade (see above). I didn't dress up, but I did wander around and be social. Then I found parties, had a great conversation with
flinthart about amorality and how recognisable as a quality I find it. Strange, but true. Also there was more strawberry bubbles for myself and
robshearman, though we didn't manage to finish the conversations we'd started on Thursday night, alas. After that party I wandered around others, I don't quite remember where, I believe that I was in
prk and
amarillion's room for a while, because I remember talking to
mikey_ob, I then sat in the hallway talking to
redbraids and
fe2h2o for an hour or so.
I believe there was bed at that point, except K hadn't remembered to bring me back the key to the room, and was also dead to the world when I got up there and softly knocked. Luckily
maharetr was a) there, b) kind enough to let me in and c) accepted my apology and pointing ruefully at K as one of those things that just may happen when K doesn't have his own room (see plans for next year - which I haven't written yet, and probably won't.)
