A perfect day (by Ju aged 27), written on lack of sleep.....

Jan 20, 2008 01:48

I am writing this on about three and a half hours of sleep. I kept company with amazing people till 5am, then got up before 9am to help K get out of the house (he slept in) and get to Genghiscon only slightly later than originally planned.

My dedication to being a good wifey type thing can be demonstrated by way of me cycling to the supermarket, before my own wakefulness happened, to buy flavoured coffee related beverages so that K would have something remotely resembling coffee to leave the house with (his grinder is broken). I also assisted in getting stuff into his hands/bags so that he didn't miss the bus he aimed for. Go me.

Then somehow the internets distracted me, and then afterthat 1/2 the good company of 5am awakened and there were more cuddles to be had. I'm told that adding cream to tea in lieu of milk is not a cardinal sin. (we have no milk currently).

I eventually managed to leave the house to head to Genghiscon, and it became readily apparent that clumsyness was setting in - interestingly I was hauling in K's foam larp weapon, and didn't manage to injure myself or anyone else with it, despite other moments of clumsy. Eventually managed to get to Genghiscon, but not without cursing the roadworks on William Street in Perth, that nmeant I missed my bus and taxi'd from Perth to Trinity instead.

Great company upon arrival, find ascetic_hedony, mikey_ob and nevryn on the grass, and I was delighted to join them in my haze of waiting for coffee to kick in. Lovely meandering conversations, I learned a little more about some of the base theories of psychology (apologies if I'd put that wrong...) and I'm still curious - this was once my job aspiration in my late teens, originally while in Noosa and before Darwin (thus before K) it was my intention to finish high school and study psychology. I didn't get a chance to be sure of what I'd understood though - or the phraseology, so I hope for more conversation in the future.

Didn't actually annex nevryn's left foot, deliberate or otherwise for Jutopia :)

I attended laney_cairo's reading of 'Marginalia' and really really enjoyed it. When she is reading, I close my eyes, her voice is a dream to listen to and I love the way that the darkness behind my eyelids conjures the characters and their story in my mind. This is however a dangerous position for someone running on about 3.5 hours sleep, and I slipped into sleep quite without realising, until I woke, apparently notifying the group of my faux pas by emitting a snore. *is mortified* Laney, being the amazing person she is, forgave me with minimal mocking, being quite aware of my state of sleep deprivation. I heart her lots. I shall endeavour to make it up to her somehow - because omg, worst thing ever!

I watched my beloved kick butt in the Larp (oh you wanted this in chronological order? hah!) which was cool! Enjoyed affectionate banter with harveystoat, cuddles with wolflullaby and re-established the caffiene stream to my brain.

Had a lovely hug from nevryn just before heading off to dinner with ascetic_hedony, we went to Tiamo cafe restaurant and filled our demanding appetites, completing it with a vanila and chocolate mousse tart dessert. Gorgeous food, and we were rather impressed with the service. Decently priced too.

Headed back and delighted in seeing rabbit1080, pounced her for cuddles, and then shrydar who rocked up moments later. Appreciated Jedi Boot Camp that K ran (Advanced Twirling anyone?) before heading up to catch the second half of the writing panel. Much laughter, and the important reiteration of how the reading of erotica is almost more important than the text itself.

Listen to K anecdote about lightsabers, enticed him into giving nevryn a belated one on one mini lightsaber lesson - and here is where I take a moment to relive seeing the look on his face while twirling around the lightsaber. It's the look of one of those big ticky boxes of ultimate geeky fantasyhood by way of the inner eight year old.

Admired my beloved make martial arts moves out of the glowball/stick poi and it shouldn't actually surprise any of you that my favourite bit was watching K be more uncoordinated than he usually is at anything - even upon first waking in the morning (where he's liable to fall back asleep while putting on shoes for example). I like those more human, less overtly good at stuff, glimpses of K learning stuff that doesn't quite come naturally.

Played Blockus and delighted in it muchly - thinky and cool with the appeal of rules being able to be explained in around a minute or two. I want to own the square board and the other more angular one. Fantastic game!

Managed to stay awake on the way home, with much thanks to nevryn for giving me a lift and allowing me to enjoy the genghiscon evening. There was talk of doctor who, new and old, and the differences between stories as written either in script form or as novels etc prior to being screen written, and the actuality of the episodes. I am delighted that he also really enjoyed Rose as a character and thought she brought something special to the story.

The world is a special place for me right now as 2008 currently seems to be unfolding for me much the same way as 2007 - pretty fucking awesome! (save the job *sigh*). I am slightly distracted by certain ticky boxes. I am also utterly adoring of, grateful for and appeciative of my wonderful friends, oh the love.

Here's to this feeling continuing.

Last but not least, hail to the new leader of Genghiscon for the coming year :)

Today has just been one of those.... perfect days.
