HELLO this is the basic itinerary for Beyond the Sea (well the first 1/6 of it, anyway). It's a basic sketch of events that will happen during the first few days of the plot.

The Deepstar 7 was a large, modular undersea habitat, of the type of design that had been deployed to the seas of many other planets. It was generally designed like this. Basically, darker metal for the hallways, lots of bluish lighting (though the main crew areas like the cabins and galley were more warmly lit). It also had lots and lots of long corridors, many of which included large reinforced metal alloy shutters that could be shut in case of emergency. There were also large reinforced window panels throughout the ship, particularly in the upper levels, for people to see outside. It included the following general areas:

(map of layout)

Upper Level

OPERATIONS
Ops was the home of many of the station's logs, and also the main terminal for the AI that maintained many of the basic functions aboard the station. Making it to Ops might be the first step toward finding out what had happened.

OBSERVATORY
Basically a big pretty windowy fishbowl you could see outside from. Ooh, look at all that darkness.

Mid Level I

MEDICAL
A medical bay with supplies, equipment, and beds enough to support the crew. The Deepstar 7 originally had only a single medical officer included with the initial crew that went down.

CAPTAIN’S QUARTERS
The captain of the Deepstar 7 had his own private quarters (how nice!), with a view of the sea outside. It was nicer than all the other rooms.

CREW QUARTERS
Unlike what you might expect, crew cabins were divided up into fairly spacious areas, with approximately four bunks to each cabin. There might be some desks or tables in the center area, and each was decorated with the personal effects of a crew member. HAHAHA you are sleeping in someone else's bed.

SCIENCE LAB
The Science Lab held specimens, core samples, readings, and so on. It was primarily a research area with all sorts of weird equipment for SCIENCE.

Mid Level II

GALLEY
A full kitchen, stocked with equipment and supplies enough to feed a crew of a hundred.

AIRLOCK
The area built to receive deep-sea carriages, as well as accommodate divers in suits that needed to exit the habitat and explore the area outside. It was rarely heavily manned, and had mechanisms for draining seawater and shunting it outside the station.

Lower Level

POWER CORE
The reactor core that powered the ship was located on the lowest level of the station. Access to it was restricted even under normal working conditions, as the core powered life support functions, electronics aboard the station, and more. It also provided remote power to compatible submersible vessels and dive suits within its sphere of influence, though likely the Terran crew would be a little leery of explaining how that all worked to any outsiders.

ENGINEERING
Fondly (?) referred to as "The Pit" by the personnel assigned to work there, engineering was located on the lower level of the station. Unlike the Engineering station aboard Stacy, this section was mostly used to repair station components and keep everything humming. It wasn't the best-lit portion of the ship, and there was always something clanking around in the bowels of the station.
