To the ship at large,
As many may have noticed, Iniss 335 has announced his candidacy for Council. Before you vote, I feel as if it's necessary that you not only know what he is, but what that means, and what he's done.
Iniss 335 is a Yeerk, a race of species that, in their natural form, are mostly without senses and capable of barely any mobility. Certain races of Earth invertebrates are comparable. In order to expand their civilization and enjoy the privileges of sight, sound, and motion, they have to take hosts, mostly involuntarily. Many races can be made into hosts, including humans.
To be a host means that, for 95.9% of your life, you're completely under the control of another being, unwillingly. You can't blink, cry, scream or breathe of your own will; every action your body makes is the action the Yeerk makes while you watch on. Your mind is an open book to them. Every secret, every shame, every intimate moment and every private regret, is theirs to view, exploit and enjoy. If they choose to try and be stealthy, they impersonate you, essentially erasing your autonomous existence as they deceive your family, friends and coworkers. They rape your mind and often your body with no regard for you, because they regard their hosts as sub-sentient, nothing more than tools. They dehumanize you in addition to enslaving you.
I know that those of you who know the situation of my world assume I'm biased; I am. I spent years under Yeerk control, violated, tortured, imprisoned inside my own head. It's not an easy thing to disclose, but it's been one of the worst kept secrets on the ship for a little while now. So I speak from a biased position, yes, but also one of the single most informed on what it is like to be host to a Yeerk.
Iniss 335 took a teenage host when he was on duty on Earth. When Stacy brought him aboard, he remained in his host until discovered, and ended up striking a deal to stay in control of the teenager's body part-time. Despite the fact that the host and his loved ones desired the host's freedom, this was deemed the best solution. When Iniss was later magicked out of the host's head, the host took him back - not out of desire to remain a Controller, but because he was convinced that his needs didn't matter compared to the 'fairness' of keeping a deal Iniss had no right to make, a deal that presumed Iniss was entitled to a body that was not his.
Iniss has since claimed that he's seen the error of his ways and the horror of taking an unwilling, child host, but that doesn't change the fact that since this revelation he continued to infest a teenager. It's nice he reached that realization; it's a shame it took him so many months to act on it.
If you choose to vote for Iniss, I can't and won't stop you. I'd just like you to keep this in mind. This is not a tirade against non-humans, but against the specific actions a specific Yeerk undertook both on Earth and aboard Stacy.
Sincerely,
Eva
