GOLD PLANET

Oct 11, 2011 22:28

A brightly-colored 'world' of balloons, mascots, rides, and glittery lights, Gold Planet was ever loud and ever entertaining. It was home to any number of typical attractions. Haunted houses, gondola rides, the Tunnel of Love, roller coasters, funnel cake, mirror houses, tacky T-shirts, and more! Of course, there was also the ever-popular Pecoco ( Read more... )

The races resemble these. Feel free to somehow get yourself roped into being a jockey.

"...Pecocos?" Luca narrowed her eyes at the sign in front of the entrance to the racetrack. The illustration sure looked like a chocobo... but not exactly.

Atom, unable to see the sign past the heads of all the adults milling around, ended up hovering above the crowd. "I've never seen birds like those before. I wonder if they're nice."

"They kind of look like these birds we have on the surface of my planet," Luca said, looking down at the boy. "Chocobos. They're pretty nice, as long as you don't mean any harm to 'em."

"Really? What planet are you from?" Luca looked like a normal human, but who knew on this ship? He was already learning not to assume that any human he saw came from Earth.

"Earth! Well, that's what we call it." Looking up at the boy. Of course she was. Because he was flying. Well... she'd seen stranger, to be honest. "From what I've heard since waking up, lots of planets seem to be called that, though."

He smiled. "I'm from Earth, too, but... I guess a different one? We had big birds where I came from, but they weren't all colorful like that. They sure look fast."

"We've only got yellow ones, white ones, and black ones where I'm from, and the black ones've been getting rarer. There seem to be more colors here. Probably because they're not actually chocobos..." She muttered the last part to herself. "They'd have to be fast if people race them, right?"

"Yeah, I guess so." He looked off into the distance, where a ticket booth was visible. "Looks like they've got some prizes if you pick the winning one."

Zouichi was seated atop a big, ornery pink Pecoco that seemed a little more interested in sampling the weeds at the starting line than paying attention to the racing official.

Not for the first time, he wondered how he ended up in these situations.

It had been a while since Luca had had a chance to ride a chocobo. But, hey, these weren't chocobos anyway, so maybe it didn't matter. She sat on a bright yellow Pecoco that had a haughty look to it. It knew it could do the job.

Einhart couldn't help but blink as she was seated on the giant green bird thing. Said giant bird thing... the Pecoco, that's what it was called, was busy pretty much bouncing in place.

Einhart still had no idea how she had managed to get thrown into this in the first place. It was really, really confusing, to say the least.

The Pecoco let out a trill, and Einhart was starting to get worried that it would try to start running out of the stall before the race even started.

Punchy is not going to fall off this Pecoco dammit.

Punchy is also discovering that Pecocos are even harder to ride than horses. He keeps wrapping his arms around the neck on his, and it keeps trying to throw him. He's pretty sure it's going to miss the go signal just because it's too busy trying to toss him off and chewing on its toenails.

"Come on, bird, you gotta bring you A-game and ice these mofos," he whispers to it, trying to do his best soothing voice. It pecks him in the forehead.

Ready or not, the race was starting! With the crack of the official starting pistol, the Pecoco stalls snapped open, setting the birds loose on the track!

[Feel free to make up obstacles!]

Zouichi's Pecoco surged forward with a loud cry, nearly smashing into Punchy's in its rush to get out of the gate. Zouichi was still hanging on, but man, this bird could move. Too bad that at this rate, it was liable to tire itself out before it ever reached the finish line. He tried to get it to slow down a little and pace itself, with mixed results.
