YAMATO SECTOR

Oct 11, 2011 21:04

In an island area of the park is the sometimes staid, sometimes festive Yamato Sector (which seemed strangely familiar to some of the crew, no doubt). Souvenir swords? Okonomiyaki? Sunset beaches filled with the SPRINGTIME OF OUR YOUTH? Medieval warlords drinking wine from human (shaped) skulls? They're all here!

Ildraniath, being the sensible sort, had managed to find an old temple. Or at least a facsimile of one. In any case, it was much quieter and far more isolated than other areas of the park and that made it perfect for what she intended to do. She need a degree of privacy after all.

Zouichi arrived at the temple soon after he received her message. He'd been expecting the ship to confine them to the Bleed for a while yet, but here they were. And as far as he knew, no one had even gotten kidnapped yet.

He nodded to her in greeting, glancing around at their surroundings. Well, it made sense that a temple like this would have few visitors in an amusement park. Little sound filtered up from the rest of the theme park, giving it a sense of distance.

"I was thinking you'd spring for Indulgence Cove," he said, a little dryly.

"Fah. Bright lights and mindless indulgence. Not the place for what I am attempting to," Ildraniath replied in a deadpan, "But what do you expect of this place? Excess everywhere."

She shook her head and then bowed slightly to Zouichi, "Thank you for coming, however. We'll see if this works or not. It is a relatively simple attempt, but... one that will be very telling. One way or another."

Zouichi returned the gesture. "No need to thank me. Believe me, I'm very interested in whether this will work or not." His personal concern for Ildraniath aside, knowing that there might be a chance to use her abilities as a farseer to benefit their cause in the war would be enormously helpful.

Of course, there were likely people on the ship that would just as soon hope she'd be unable to look more than a few moments into the future, at least for the duration of the conflict... but that was a short-sighted sentiment.

Ildraniath nodded and then slowly set herself a few yards away. She let her eyes slip closed and she reached out into the warp, tapped into the vast sea of psychic energy that surrounded her, that surrounded everything and let her mind wander. All around her, the runestones began to move, circling heri n elaborate patterns and giving off a slight glow. She reached out, straining to catch a glimpse, a portent - anything.

Zouichi watched this all with interest, though he was not at all attuned to the Warp. That people had abilities like this was something he'd come to accept... but the way Ildraniath worked had little in common with the methods used by the psychics on his own world.

Slowly, she plucked one rune and then another from the swirling pattern that surrounded her. Then she began to move faster, moving with all the grace and flow that her people were gifted with. And then, just as quickly she stopped, eyes locked on the runes she'd picked out, her mind straining-

There.

Curious.

After almost ten minutes of being as still as a stone, she finally stirred.

"...it is strange. I can see the threads and probabilities that lie on this planet, that follow it, glimpses of the crew here, but... nothing beyond that."

She frowned, "This is... not unexpected and better than I'd hoped."

"So it's the Transmigration 9, then, or our connection to it? Can you read anything about the ship itself?" Zouichi thought that the answer would be no. After all, Aibghalien's lore spell had set off its defense system, of all things. Clearly someone didn't want them knowing the truth about what it was they were traveling around in.

"If you can see the future as it applies to any planet we set down on, though, the potential application for our missions..." Would be inestimable. Assuming, that is, that people would be willing to listen to what she had to say.

"The ship itself or our connection to it, yes," Ildraniath mused, half to herself, "The ship... it was clouded. Nothign about that blasted vessel is clear to me."

For a moment, an expression of frustration crossed her face and then she waved a hand dismissively, "But at least when we embark, I will be able to provide some forewarning of what we face. It will be better than blindly groping in the dark."

She sighed as the runes she'd brought with her settled, falling back into a that strange pattern that surrounded her. "It was worth the effort, I believe. But still troubling."

"Frustrations aside," said Zouichi in a dry tone, "It's impressive how much effort was expended in making sure we know nothing about the ship we're flying around in. Technological, psychic, magical... apparently none of the means we have access to can tell us anything useful about it."

"But to be honest, I'm a little relieved. The ship has apparently... tinkered with those in the pods before." And this at least made it clear that Ildraniath's abilities were intact, if interfered with.

"How reassuring," she responded with a dry chuckle, "We're only cut off from all outside sources of information or alternatives."

She clasped her hands together with a shake of her head. "Regardless, thank you. I will find a way around this... somehow."

She looked distant and thoughtful for a moment before she went on, "In any case, I suppose I'll have to pretend to enjoy the rest of this... gaudy planet."

Zouichi glanced in her direction, hesitating for a moment. "Well, in a few minutes, there's supposed to be a fireworks display in the artificially darkened area of this sector. I can't very well say that it will be up to Eldar standards, but... would you like to come along? If you don't mind the company, that is."

Ildraniath looked slightly surprised for a moment and then glanced back in the direction of the main thoroughfare. Brightly lit, full of people. Her focus and dedication called her to stay, to meditate and concentrate on the problem at hand. But would any more thinking or meditation break this invisible barrier that seemed to surround her? After a moment, she slowly nodded at Zouichi, "I think I may join you. We are supposed to be relaxing, aren't we?"

He smiled a little wryly. "And we'll be here for a week, so it's not like we've much choice. In any case, I spotted a hill earlier that should be a little further away from the crowds."

He began his way down the winding temple steps. "So, how have you been faring? Have you had enough of this planet yet?"

"Good. The last thing I need is a bunch of humans gawking at me."

Leave it to the Eldar to think that humans would find her so alien that they'd be openly staring. She folded her hands as they walked, stride as measure as always.

"More than enough. Tasteless, gaudy entertainment - if it can be called that. It's so..."

She wrinkled her nose after a moment of thought, "...primitive."

Zouichi raised an eyebrow at her. "You've had gawkers here?" He thought it more likely that she'd draw her attention through her bearing than through anything else about her appearance. People didn't usually stride about roller coasters and haunted houses with that sort of gravitas.

"Well, I can't say amusement parks are known for their tastefulness. But I could be wrong -- by the time I woke up on Earth, they'd all been abandoned. What is it that the Eldar do for entertainment?"
