The Precinct was still, thankfully, one of the most secure places on the ship. It was also a fairly innocuous place for Leon and Kang to have this discussion. With Leon using the place temporarily as an office, no one would really think twice about one of the Council members coming to talk business ( Read more... )

Kang showed up right on time. He entered the precinct entirely casually, used to holding clandestine meetings, and nodded at Leon in greeting, "Captain."

"Councilor," Leon returned, then offered Kang a seat.

"Good to see you up and about."

"It takes a bit more than hypothermia to keep me down," Kang grinned, being careful of his wings and tail as he sat.

"Good to hear." Normally, Leon would've wanted to continue with pleasantries, as he was curious about how Kang was enjoying having Kali around, but he'd table that for later.

For now, business.

"You know what I wanted to talk to you about." Not a question.

Expression turning serious, Kang tilted his head to one side slightly, "You want eyes on the Daligig, and information. I don't blame you one bit."

"I don't trust them." He didn't have to spell out why, no one on this ship trusted them. "But this is going to be our best chance to learn about them, and hopefully learn something useful from them."

"Do you have any idea how many are going to show up, and when?" Kang asked. He damn well didn't trust them either; there were too many unanswered questions, things that seemed off, and he'd been used in the past before.

"I don't know how many, but more than one, likely with their own security team." he answered. "We should expect them on next couple of days."

Vague, he knew, but, "Admiral Kansa couldn't be more specific than that. Apparently the Daligig didn't see fit to share details with him either."

"And what did Admiral Kansa think of that?" If there was distrust in the Daligig even among the other members of the GIA...

"The Admiral is a straightforward kind of guy, one of the few who didn't try to tap dance any questions we had. He wasn't at all thrilled about their coming here, particularly since it seems the Daligig have been keeping as many secrets from the GIA as they have been us. He trusts them about as much as we do, but the top brass of the GIA is still on friendly terms with the Daligig, so he can't push them for answers."

Kang fell silent for a moment, the tip of his tail moving slightly in thought, and then snorted. "We may be in more trouble than we thought, then. What information did he give us, if any?"

"Not much, at least about the Daligig or the Ohm. He was able to shed a little bit of light on the Catastrophists, but not much there.

"What he did do is give us, however, the means to get in touch with GIA High Command, he even pulled some strings to get us priority access to their databases and rights to requisition resources and assistance as needed."

But... there's always a but with these things...

"The only catch is that he doesn't want the Daligig to know about it. He even wants us to maintain radio silence until our 'guests' have left." In short, they've landed smack in the middle of yet another situation.

Nodding, Kang crossed his arms over his chest, "That's good news. It could be a trick for all we know, though; I'd be careful what information I shared with the GIA High Command until we have a better idea of the truth. Information is our most valuable asset. As for the Catastrophists, will you be sharing that with the rest of the crew?"

"Information is also one of the things we're sorely lacking in, especially when it comes to the situation beyond Stacy's hull." Hell, they were still in the dark about some of the situations within Stacy's hull. "Once we can, we'll see what they have to offer, and then return in kind.

"There'll be a report out about the Catastrophists as soon as all of the data is put together. Luis is still doing autopsies on them, and the Ohm that we have. As soon as that's finished, we can put all of that out there."

Kang liked Leon more and more. He smiled, "I have to say, you're the first human I've worked under in a long damn time that I've actually liked."
