Dearly Beloved...

The City didn't have weather as most people knew it, but it was nonetheless a beautiful day - warm weather with a nice breeze, Stacy's sun-equivalent shining in the sky... almost as if it was reflecting the emotions of at least one of the ship's crew. In the middle of the Park, someone had set up a little white lattice archway amongst the hedgerows ( Read more... )

WEDDING BELLS starlight_ace August 2 2011, 20:14:55 UTC
(ooc: The ceremony! Fate and Nanoha tie the knot, Leon officiating. The wedding party can jump in, too, as needed - Vivio, Caro, the Reinforces, and Signum.)

Fate was, unsurprisingly, nervous as hell. Sure, it wouldn't really change much; they've been living together for over a year, have been raising a child for just as long... but this was on a completely different level. It wasn't just making it official, she was promising, in front of all her friends and whichever crew members decided to show up, that she was going to spend the rest of her life with this woman, that she'd protect her and take care of her, and only death will be able to separate them.

So yes. It was one thing making those promises to herself, but it was another to say it out loud in front of a crowd of people. Her nerves are totally justified.

Okay. Standing in front of some people for a ceremony. This wasn't so bad, especially since she herself didn't have to do anything but carry a ring and stand next to Testarossa. And, hypothetically, catch her if she tried to run, but her old friend seems to be frozen to the spot fairly solidly.

Risking the chance of a sudden bolt at the contact, Signum puts her hand on Fate's shoulder comfortingly.

Leon was a little nervous, if only because he had never actually officiated a wedding before, even if he's been part of several of them. But more than that he was excited, and quite happy for Nanoha and Fate.

Seeing how nervous Fate was, he couldn't help but chuckle a bit in amusement. "At ease, Lieutenant," he lightly chided, but quickly gave her a reassuring smile.

"Just take a breath and relax." The ceremony was probably going to be the easiest part of the marriage. "It'll be fine." And it was about to begin.

In all fairness, Nanoha wasn't any less nervous than Fate. Even if the two of them had been intimately sharing their life together for years - and the closest of friends for years beyond that - there was such a finality and weight to standing up there and saying words aloud that she'd silently thought for so long... it made her heart pound.

But she had always been a lot better at hiding it than Fate was. And to anyone else, the young woman - wearing a soft white dress with a lacy train and rose-colored trim - looked like she was glowing.

Nanoha leaned out behind the little barrier they'd set up so as not to spoil the surprise, making sure that everyone was in place, and then she ducked back, looking down at Vivio. "Are you ready, Vivio?" She said quietly and warmly. "It's your turn."

"I'm ready...!" Vivio answered, quietly. This was exciting - her mamas were making it official. And with everything that had going on, something like this was all the worth while.

Making sure her pink dress was in place, and taking up a basket of petals (mostly synthetic types), Vivio made her way out, Kris floating right behind and dressed up in his own little suit.

Nanoha beamed down at Vivio as the girl went out to perform her duty - pride swelling up in her heart more than anything at the sight. "Good girl," she said softly.

The mage took a deep breath, making sure one final time that her wedding dress was on properly and that the crown of flowers in her hair sat right... she reached down to take up her bouquet, exhaling and inhaling once more, before she stepped out behind the screen into the aisle, following Vivio to their makeshift altar.

She walked slowly, meeting the eyes of her comrades - her friends - one by one... but then she locked eyes with Fate. And for a moment there, her eyes felt a little bit blurry until she blinked them away. This was happening. This was really happening.

"Wow..."

When Fate turned her gaze towards the aisle, any jittering stopped, along with her breathing. Somewhere in the back of her mind she made a note to congratulate Rein on a job well done, but it was hard to think of anything other than how beautiful her soon-to-be wife was right now. So she just watched as Nanoha slowly walked towards her, each step Taking what seemed like ages.

Click went Rein's tiny little camera before she stowed it away in her dress. Y'know, she just had to get Fate's expression on film. Hayate would have done the same.

Leon gave Nanoha a small smile as she arrived to meet Fate at the altar. After a few seconds cleared his throat gently; it was time to begin.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to both witness and celebrate the marriage of Nanoha Takamachi and Fate Testarossa Harlaown. This is a momentous occasion; its a very big step in their journey together, but by no means is it the final step of that journey. A wedding, while beautiful, is a single event where promises are made. A marriage is a lifetime of keeping those promises day in and day out. It is a series of decisions that have been made, and will continue to be made over and over again, every day, that shows each of their care and concern for the one whom they each love most in this life.

"Now, before these two make their promises to each other, if there is anyone here who believes that these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace." And if anyone did object, Leon felt nothing but pity for them.

Nanoha gave the other girl a nervous if amused little smile, as she reached out to take Fate's hands in hers. She didn't really think that anyone would speak up against their wedding, but it was a silly little thought all the same.

He didn't think anyone would object.

"Now, as I said earlier, marriage isn't about making a promise, but it does start with making a promise. One that is renewed daily through a couples actions and a responsibility taken on in the spirit of faith, hope, and love, that can bring comfort in times of sadness and take your joy to untold heights.

"This couple has chosen to write their own vows to each other, to make that promise in their very own words. So, Nanoha..." Leon indicated for her to go first.

The auburn-haired girl looked at Leon and smiled warmly before returning her gaze to Fate - and squeezing those hands just a little bit.

"I, Nanoha Takamachi, take you, Fate Testarossa-Harlaown, as my lawfully wedded wife. I promise to stand by you and be your friend and companion for all of my days to come, to have you and to hold you and to care for you. I will be by your side when times are happy, and I will be by your side when times are hard, to support and love you with all of my heart. I will cherish your presence and respect your thoughts and dreams - and I will make those dreams my own."

"I will fly together with you in the bright blue sky." Now the tears in her eyes were real and shining, her expression overjoyed - though she kept speaking, her voice cracked just a tad. "And I will dream of growing old with you - together."

"I promise to be the rock in your life, as you are the rock in mine, until death parts us and beyond."

Tears were shining in Fate's eyes as well, and she had to blink hard to get rid of them as Nanoha spoke. The words filled her heart, threatening to overwhelm her, and it was a moment before she remembered she was supposed to speak now.

"I--" Her voice cracked, and she paused to take a deep breath before continuing. "I, Fate Testarossa-Harlaown, take you, Nanoha Takamachi, as my lawfully wedded wife. I promise to stay by your side, through thick and thin, in times of joy and times of sorrow."

She had to take another breath to steady herself, and she could not stop the few tears from slipping down her cheeks. "I promise to be there whenever you call my name, and I promise to protect you with every last ounce of energy I possess.

You will forever be a part of me, just as I am a part of you, and not even death will be able to take me from your side."

"Those are very beautiful words, and there's no doubt in my mind that you mean them, and may htere be no doubt in your hearts. But, there is still something to be said for tradition. So, I must ask...

"Do you, Nanoha, take Fate to be your lawfully wedded wife? Do you vow to love her and care for her for as long as you both shall live? Do you accept her, with all of her faults and strengths, and offer yourself to her with all of your own faults and strengths? Do you promise to help her when she needs help, and to turn to her when you need help? Do you promise to be a faithful and loving companion and to always put the promises you make this day above all else?"

Nanoha looked up at Leon and nodded softly. "I do."
