The Jedi Temple.

He really needed to propose the Magic Department move to the Tower of High Sorcery. It really made a lot more sense, didn't it?

Oh well.

An illusory sign out front said "Welcome New Applicants", along with a magic mouth that welcomed them and gave brief instructions to the office he had reluctantly claimed after deciding that ( Read more... )

It had taken the pyromancer a bit longer than she had expected to make her way through the City to the Temple. Part of that was distraction. The place was bigger than Drakanis Shiva back home, and Ellyn had thought that was the biggest city she'd ever see.

Well. Color her wrong.

Eventually, though, she found her way into the office of the pointy-eared man, and, tilting her head, offered him a grunt in greeting.

"Name's Ellyn Vitner. We spoke on th' comm?"

At this point he supposed seeing another elf join the magic department was too much to ask. Ah well; they'd probably all be sorcerers anyway. What was he missing.

"Welcome. Please, have a seat and let's talk." He gestured to the chair across from him as he set down the quill.

Ellyn folded herself down into the chair, rearranging her robes about herself. Over the plantsuit especially. She still wasn't used to that.

She had no clue what kind of loaded question she was about to ask, next, either. "So...whadd'ya wanna know?"

"Well, membership in the department isn't exactly rigorous," he said, still smiling in the hopes of putting her at ease. "Obviously, we like to know if you are capable of performing magical or mystical feats. Beyond that, we would like to compile a full list of the department members' capabilities, so I'd like to know what it is you can do."

"Magic, no. I'm a pyromancer. Endless didn't consider it magic--you'd like him, I think." Especially since this guy talked like he was the Endless' younger brother. Without the wolf to translate. Ellyn sighed.

She missed the wolf. A little.

"Anyway. Basically I'm fire, fire's me, an' I can do a bunch'a crap with it. If ya need demonstratin' I can do that."

That was a... remarkably succinct summation! "If you please, yes, I would like one. It sounds intriguing."

"Here, or is there too much flammable here?" Meaning, 'was he worried about losing anything?' Because Ellyn figured that really, she could handle not burning things that didn't require burning.

She had delicate control, really!

"Oh, here, lemme show ya th' good trick!" It was a moment of inspiration, truly. Ellyn spread her arms as if she were holding something, and unburnt Trouble, the greatsword, mentally reinstating its molecular structure. It began as a subtle glow; one that became brighter and brighter until it was a hunk of gleaming-hot metal in her hands.

Then she removed the heat from it, carefully, as it reconstituted. It might be slightly more than room temperature, but...

"Go 'head, ya ought'a be able ta touch it," Ellyn said.

"That was impressive." He leaned over to poke at the sword curiously, not that he doubter her words. "And correct, not magical in the slightest. That was simply a pure manipulation of energy directly, then?"

"Always heard it called unburnin', I s'pose that's what it was, yeah. I don't do the hardcore studyin'. Th' Endless did lots'a that an' he was always more concise."

Ellyn thought about that a moment. "Ya would'a got 'long great with 'im. An' mebbe he has a few works in th' library I heard about. I'll have ta look, since I know what I'm lookin' for."

She grimaced. "Makes fer great bedtime readin' if yer havin' problems fallin' asleep, though, if ya ask me."

He didn't sleep, but now was not the time to quibble on mild points.

"So I assume that you have control over any number of manifestations of fire, to a more or less total extent?"

"You name it, I c'n pro'ly do it," Ellyn agreed. "Also found out I c'n absorb lightning. Can't generate it m'self though."

She figured it probably wasn't a good idea to go into her father's dead magic abilities, considering she couldn't replicate them.

"If ya need ta see more though, it's not a problem."

"Well. That may not be magical, but I think it certainly qualifies as mystical enough to get you in the department," he said, smiling. "I WOULD like to know more about it, truthfully, but..." He gestured to the office. "Duty first, at least until the department head gets back from her mission, and then has the luxury of a happy marriage and honeymoon."

"'S'awright, gives me a chance ta go t'th' Library an' see if they got the Endless' treatise here. Can't see why they wouldn't, an' it'd answer all yer questions a lot better'n I could."

Probably because the Endless had at least a good thousand years or so on her, if not more, to study about it. If not longer.

"Anyway, I'll leave ya to your work, 'Bghalien. Might drop by later if I find th' book. Was nice meetin' ya."

He rose and bowed quite formally, razor-sharp. "A pleasure to meet you as well. I look forward to a productive future!"
