Returning from Obscurity [Open]

Arhu was almost surprised to find himself back in Stacy proper. He almost hadn't thought that he'd make it - almost, because he was nothing if not confident in his own abilities. His memory of where he'd been was...muddled on the details, but he thought he remembered being told to jump through flashing orange and blue circles and a frustrated voice ( Read more... )

Crucible had taken a rather liking to the river that ran through the city, the fact that it was the only source of water to allow the dragon a good swim on occasion. Thus here he was once more, moving against the current as he swam just beneath the surface, relaxing after a long few days spent as Bight.

As sharp as his senses were it did not take long for the Bronze dragon to notice even one as small as Arhu, at first he thought that it may have been Rhiow once more however on closer inspection the other looked a good deal different. Nonetheless Crucible's interest was piqued and thus slowed his approach and rose his large head slowly from the water, his neck and head in and of itself larger than the previous resident of the river as he peered on down to him. The Fish in question drawn more towards Arhu due to the fact of a rather large dragon just up stream of them.

Arhu lifted a paw as the fish came flooding by all of a sudden and slapped one up and out of the river, batting it away from the river before he leaned down and killed it with a quick motion.

And then the big shape in the river caught his attention.

Slowly the cat turned and looked up, and up, and up. Very slowly, he licked his nose once, and managed to say, "Dai stiho," the wizardly greeting in the Speech that could be both greeting and farewell.

Crucible watched him for a brief moment, he could only assume that the others words were a greeting of kinds, "Greetings to you," He rumbled out even as he moved over to the bank, resting the rest of his form still beneath the water. Trails of water still tinkling down over his scales.

After a moment Arhu licked his nose again. Ith could be just as big, when he felt like wearing the shape of his People's Father, but he didn't see Ith in that shape very often.

Still, there was no need to act like some meek little kitten! Pulling a tom's attitude around him, he turned to nonchalantly groom the fur of a shoulder down.

"Hunt's Luck. My name's Arhu."

Watching the other for that moment, considering him with some interest. He had a similar sense about him as Rhiow, he could only assume they were of the same kind, or at least similar.

He gave the smallest of inclinations of his head in return for his introduction, "I am known as Crucible, you are of the same kind as Rhiow are you not?"

Arhu perked up, though at least some of that was due to his bemusement. It seemed like everyone knew of Rhiow. Maybe that was due to the Councilor thing, but he'd rather think that it was because she was just worthy of that notice. Of course she was, and he was part of her team.

"Yeah! She's my team leader, actually," he said, affecting that same nonchalant touch of arrogance from before.

Crucible couldn't help but be amused at the touch of arrogance from such a small creature. "Indeed. What manner of team might that be?" He asked with the hint of idle interest.

"We manage the worldgates situated at Grand Central. Wizards all over use worldgates for fast transit wherever they need to be, either on-planet or off." And he still wished that he could have seen Crossings or any of the other major off-planet hubs.

Crucible nodded thoughtfully at that, Worldgates, interesting, though Wizards did have a habit of using teleport and other such spells, there were no gates that led to other worlds, "Interesting to what manner of other places 'off-planet' did these Worldgates lead,"

"Wherever you target them," he explained. "I mean, it takes a certain know-how to get it to target the right place, and not, say, open void that would kill everyone around." Arhu fell into an unconscious teaching pose that had more than a little of Saash in it; the technician had taught him a lot in the short time she'd been around him, before she'd gone onto the Tenth Life.

"But you can go to other parts of the planet, other planets, other galaxies, or even other dimensions as long as you have the proper authorizations."

Crucible would listen silently for the moment, these world gates sounded quite useful indeed, "Of course, I've little doubt such things would prove dangerous in unskilled hands," his tone clear that unskilled hands did not include himself.

"Are there any such gates aboard," He asked after a moment, he doubted there was but asked anyway, watching the feline with some interest.

"Exactly! Which is why the People are the ones to handle them for the most part. We're perfectly built for the work." Arhu gave him a smug-tom look there; he wasn't trying to outdo the dragon, but just stating what he considered to be a proper fact with justifiable pride.

"And nope. The Bleed messes with the hyperstrings pretty badly, and I wouldn't want to try to target a gate with all of the things we're traveling through. I mean, just getting the right target can be difficult enough, but to do it from a moving starting point? We had enough trouble with a rogue gate unpredictably turning into a timeslide. I don't want to know what would happen if someone accidentally fell into raw Bleed without protection."

Jr. had been near at the riverside when he spotted Arhu, attention pretty set on him for a few minutes. That is, until the very noticeable movement came from just beneath the water. Jr. turned his head just as Crucible lifted his head out of the water, eyes staring in surprise.

"... oh wow."

A dragon taking a swim certainly wasn't something he saw every day.

It didn't take the dragon long in the least to notice the other presence nearby, turning his large head to peer down on the small human with some amusement. After all it was a reaction to be expected of one of his size, such dragon's weren't a common sight aboard the ship from what he had heard.

"Greetings,"

Oh, he could talk, so he was probably just another (unfortunate) crewmember on the ship. Though he still looked pretty surprised, and maybe excited, Jr. quickly shook his head to shake off the outright gaping. With a smile, he nodded his head up at the dragon.

"Hey! Didn't expect to see you come out of the water."

Crucible couldn't help but notice the surprise and excitement that the other showed at the sight of him, not the usual reaction to a dragon such as he but he couldn't complain at that.

"Few would currently," he replied with the slightest hint of amusement, "I am known as Crucible,"
