Exercise Without Magic (Open)

The tapping of feet on the city streets slowed to a halt as Negi, or rather "Nagi" Springfield slowed to a halt, breathing a little heavy. He had gone out for a run, and had shut off his magic for about a couple of hours so that he could get a bit of a normal workout in ( Read more... )

"You and me both!" came a voice from not far away. The paladin cheerfully rounded a corner, seeing no problem with just walking into this monologue. "Where's the action? The adventure? The dwarves who just can't stand to see us blow up their alcohol? The goblin shredders? ANYthing!"

"I think we left that all back on the other previous planets," replied Negi wryly as he looked over at the paladin. "I admit I should still be in bed recovering but I just can't sit around doing nothing. At this point I'd go borrow a transformation device again."

"Transformation device? What does it transform you into?"

He hoped it wasn't a dragon. That was overdone!

Negi laughed. "It's called a DoubleDriver. The last time Devlin and I borrowed it, we became Kamen Rider Double. Got into a LOT of trouble as Double I tell you."

"Though I kind of prefer Advent Decks. Same concept, but easier to use with just one person. A Kamen Rider is an armoured warrior of justice by the way."

"Wait, you need something to transform you into an armored warrior of justice?"

He looked briefly down at his own plate armor. "Have you ever tried just putting the armor on and fighting for justice?"

"Ah, it's sort of the whole henshin hero sort of thing," admitted Negi. "I'd show what it's all about but the Sensoriums are a ways away from here."

"I have no idea what a henchman hero is," he said, cheerfully unfazed by the strange terms. "So an explanation WOULD help."

"Ah, well it's basically a transforming one. Protecting a secret identity, a person transforms into an armored warrior. Usually with different powers and abilities than normally," explained Negi. "If you want, I can show a couple of them in the Sensoriums. They're only a block away."

"Oh, I can do that too!" Mar said, not exactly on the same page. "But you've got me curious."

Negi grinned as he nodded. "Let's go over to the Sensoriums then. I'll show you what a Rider is."

Once arriving, he keyed up an opponent and tried to remember the specifics. While he had done Ryuki before, the memories of practising along with Tsukasa were still in his mind.

"This," said Negi, holding up the DecaDriver which appeared in his hand. "Is what they call a Driver. It's a device that serves as a transformation device. Most Riders have them if not all of them, and its sort of their trademark."

He followed, cheerful and eager to satisfy his curiosity. ANYthing was better than reckless wandering... even the sensoriums, which he had yet to figure out how to work properly. (He had, after all, wandered into one only to hit a game remarkably like his daily Azerothian life...)

"Oh, you push the button -- so to speak -- and that does it?"

"Pretty much. But each person has their own different sequences. Sort of a personal thing."

Strapping it onto his waist, he pulled a card out of the RideBooker that now hung at the side of his waist and held it out in front of himself as there was a revving noise. One hand pulled the DecaDriver open and there was a loud noise as he twisted the card around. "Henshin!"

Slotting the card into the top, he closed the sides of the camera-like device. KAMENRIDE: DECADE!

Ten holograms appeared around him and merged on his body as a crown of cards emitted from his belt, attaching to his forehead. His body which was predominantly black became magenta in color, and his eyes flashed green.

"A little more showy, but Tsukasa-san was always good at that. This is Kamen Rider Decade. He was a friend of mine back when he was out of the pods."

"That was impressive!" Mar said, pumping a fist enthusiastically into the air. "What does it do?"

"Ah, well it's got a few weapons and powers at its disposal," explained Negi as he drew the RideBooker, and considering it for a moment, locked it into gun form as he aimed it at a few targets that appeared. Pulling the trigger, he knocked one of them backwards. "The RideBooker has two modes. Gun, and sword."

Twisting the case again, he turned it into a sword. "Each one of these comes with a card as well."

ATTACKRIDE: SLASH! proclaimed his belt as Negi slotted in a card and the blade glowed. Swinging it, a blade of energy shot forward, cleaving another cardboard cutout. "It's got a few other modes too, such as being able to change into different Riders, though I only remember a few from memory."

Mar scratched his head at this display. Frankly, he'd gotten confused at the part where cards came into play. "I know some hunters who'd like a weapon like that. I think."

"Yeah. Although weapons and items like this really come along once in a while, and only to a select few," admitted Negi as he returned the RideBooker to his waist and drew a card, opening the device.

KAMENRIDE: RYUKI! proclaimed the belt as mirror images formed around him and changed his color scheme and design to red and black rather than magenta and black. "I wish I could have asked him more about where he got his, but we never got around to doing that."

ATTACKRIDE: STRIKE VENT A dragon burst into view from overhead and a gauntlet in the shape of its head landed on Negi's arm. "Now this is more familiar."
