The Story of My Life [semi-open, before Darksoul]

Tana had ended up, during her walk around the ship, inside weapons and possessions. There was a little locker with her things in it, and she hadn't really gone through them there. She tossed them into her purse, and brought them to the obs deck for further inspection ( Read more... )

Having finished her Security duties for the day, Jeka set upon her self-assigned mission to locate Superboy's first girlfriend and introduce herself. It would certainly make keeping an eye on her easier.

After a little bit of searching (and a brief wish that her Brainy was still awake so that she could have him try to locate Tana Moon's omnicomm), she finally found the human on the Obs Deck, playing with some sort of electronic device. She double-checked the picture that Kon had given her to confirm, then tucked her omnicomm away.

It still took her a few moments to get up the nerve to approach.

"Excuse me," she began politely, "you are Tana Moon, correct?"

Tana hit the end button and glanced up, surprised that someone knew her name. It wasn't like she'd exactly had time to chat up a lot of people, after all. But a giant, part-snake lady was a bit different than what Tana had been expecting.

"I... I am. And you are?"

"Jeka Wynzorr," Jeka answered, hesitantly putting out her hand. "I'm a teammate of Superboy's. He said that you needed a room in the crew quarters, I thought I'd offer the empty half of mine."

Points for being friendly, if nervous, Jeka. Tana took her hand and shook it firmly. "It's nice to meet you, Miss Wynzorr." So, it looked like Kon's protective bubble was spreading out further than his reach. It rankled, but that wasn't Jeka's fault.

"Thank you very much, I'd be glad to." Not sleeping in that... creepy, fleshy capsule bed would be a nice change. Tana smiled to put Jeka at ease as her other hand put the phone back in the purse. "How long have you known the Kid?"

"No formalities, please," Jeka said with a bit of a smile. "Just 'Jeka', or 'Sensor' if you must." Especially since 'highness' was technically the most accurate...

"You're quite welcome. I'll show you where it is now, if you have the time." She assumed that she did, since she'd already started asking questions. "I first met him back when his hair was..." she pursed her lips and gestured along her temples. "Unfortunate. It's hard to give a definitive answer on that sort of thing when time travel is involved."

Tana laughed, "I see. I have to say, I agree with you; his hair is much, much better now." There were a lot of things better about him, but when her brain went to "helpfully" list them, Tana had to stifle the urge to knock her forehead against the wall.

She looked at the stuff around her: a small photo frame, her old tape recorder, a necklace, and decided they'd be better inspected on a later date. "Well, I didn't really have any plans except sitting here," feeling like a tool. She stuffed them all into the little bag again and stood up. "Lead the way, Jeka."

Jeka pushed off the floor with her lower body -- just an inch or so into the air, really -- and began slithering off in the direction of the crew quarters. She also tried to think of a topic of conversation other than Kon's hair, since it would be incredibly rude to mention that there had been a betting pool going about why his hair had looked like that.

"It's interesting how much people do and do not change in a thousand years," she said finally. "It was certainly never boring when he came to visit."

Tana thought back to his arrival in Hawaii, following behind Jeka with long strides to keep up. "He's never tended to go for boring, that's for sure." Especially since it seemed like more things happened to Hawaii and Hilo after he arrived.

However, Kon was currently the last person she wanted to think about. At least until he was right in front of her again. "What is it you do on the ship, Jeka? Assuming it's not hush-hush." Hello, Reporter Instincts. Nice to know you made it along for the ride.

"I'm part of the Security team," Jeka answered, looking back over her shoulder. "I'm also a member of the Magic Department, though my abilities aren't really magical. I wasn't aware that anything particularly hush-hush was going on, have you heard something about that?"

She shook her head, "Actually, I haven't heard a thing." Which raised another question, "I take it there's some kind of... paging system, to get a hold of one another?"

"You don't have an omnicomm or a comm ring?" Jeka asked, surprised. Grife, someone's falling down on the job, Kon! "All right, slight change of plans, we'll go to Engineering first and fix that."

"A what and a what?" Tana raised her eyebrows.

In Kon's defense, she stomp stomp stomped out before he could really explain that.

"Omnicomms are essentially hand-held computers," Jeka explained. "It's where we've compiled all the information we know about Stacy, the Ohm, and the Daligig. We also use the to communicate with each other. The comm rings are exactly what they sound like, the crew uses them to mentally communicate with each other all over the ship."

Never the less, she would have much preferred if if he'd mentioned that she didn't have either of the communicators. Those were fairly important to keeping her safe, after all.

She perked up at that. Sure it would probably take her a little bit to figure out all of the odds and ends, but Tana knew she was smart. Maybe not a rocket scientist, but that hadn't stopped her before. "Well, that makes it a lot easier than hoofing around looking for people." But did make it easier to not be found, she noticed.

"It also lets you access the maps we've made, and makes it clear which areas of the ship are less safe than others," Jeka said. She lowered her voice. "It also shows the areas of the ship where Stacy is still damaged and can't see us. That can be good or bad, depending on whether or not you need her help in a fight." Tana didn't strike her as the type of person who started fights, though. "Incidentally, if you hadn't heard, Stacy doesn't permit us to attack each other or do damage to her. Breaking her rules earns you Violations, and fifteen of those earns you a Punishment." Jeka shuddered. "Punishment isn't fatal, but it is essentially vivisection. Please be careful."

Tana grimaced, "Thanks for the warning." Vivisection didn't sound like anything Tana wanted to be apart of; especially considering what had happened before she woke up.

"So, play nice with the others and don't start any trouble. I think I can handle that," Tana smiled confidentially. "And find something to do."
