It was a mutual decision that Rein and Ed would be passing customers back and forth between each other. Everyone liked clothing and people liked trinkets being made right? As thus being said, they had put up banners and a nice post with "Atelier Elric" <--- and "Stormwind Clothiers" ---> scribbled on it in fancy Crannagan script. Perfectly legible

"Hello, anyone home?" Trudy asked, knocking on the door frame as she let herself into the shop.

The stripes sewn haphazardly on the sleeves of her plantsuit testified to the need for some kind of uniform, something that would indicate rank and service in Command.

Rein shrugged. "I have a lot of cloth," she said needlessly. Her back room was enormous. Lex really did his thing.

The actual design of the thing was something Trudy wasn't exactly sure about. Rogue Squadron formals was one possibility, but it didn't make sense to codify a uniform for all of Command that only had a meaning for one section.

And she waved her hand as several screens appeared in front of Trudy, all displaying various designs from history and media, some of them outright archaic, the rest of them quite modern and well fitting on the models that Rein brought up.
For the record, most of the models was of the female type but there was some cross-dressing, as Rein had wasted no time in using her big sister as the model for the uniforms.

Trudy scrolled through the uniform designs, her eyebrow raising at some of the... interesting differences between male and female uniforms. Uniforms from Earth she flicked past with barely any interest. It seemed too exclusive to pick something from her home planet, no matter how obscure.
She had finally narrowed it down to just a few choices, and after a little more time deliberating, Trudy reached out and touched her final decision. "This one," she said. "In green. Medals will go on the left breast, rank stripes on the cuffs, patches on either sleeve. With, uh, pants for both sexes, please." Skirts on a military uniform? Ridiculous.

"The rank stripes and the patches I can make up, though the medals we'll bring to Edward to fabricate," she said. "We're working as a tag-team now since a lot of people are asking for more complex items which require certain things I don't have."
"In short, if you can get everyone who requires one of them their measurements or send them down one by one, I will get the batch order started right away. I find it's harder to make a ballpark Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large without knowing the usual crew sizes."

She typed for a minute - apparently it was a long message. After she was finished, she put the omnicomm back in her pocket. "I'll need to get you a list of the ranks and corresponding stripes as soon as possible. We'll leave those off until we figure out what the configurations will be, I think. And I'll dig up the squadron patches that someone designed a while back so you can have those designs. Is there any way for me to see how it will look when it's finished?"
Reply
"Yes, I'll just have to input the designs into the finished appearance. Let me just color swap the pallet here first..." And she tapped a few controls, swapping the red to a fashionable green with the extra bits left white. "Of course that's not the final design but there is allowances if you want to change the color of the bars and stripes and everything else. I can go lighter or darker, but a Air Force Green might be the best for this sort of thing. I can get you a sample from the back if you'd like."

She closed her eyes, thinking back to her lessons in Basic Training. "I think it would be best to adopt the Naval system for displaying rank in cuff stripes - one thin stripe for Ensign, two for Lieutenant, three for Commander, four for Captain. One thick stripe and three thin for General - what would be Admiral in the Navy." Trudy opened her eyes. "It also leaves room for more ranks if we need them."

Never let it be said that Trudy didn't care about her pilots' comfort. She just didn't care about their comfort as much as she cared about their unification as a military outfit. "Come to think of it, these are a little dressy for duty. You said you had enough green cloth to choke a pig, right? How about the bomber jacket variant for duty uniforms, and these as dress uniforms?"

She swapped the designs, pushing the screen to the side as she brought up another. A few flicks of her finger later and there was an bomber jacket with a more flight-like design to the overall. Rein grimaced as she got rid of the flared pants, replacing them with straight ones. "Ick no polyester," she added. "Got some of that in my stock and I refuse to use them for pants. They ride up terrible in muggy terrain."

She sucked her teeth, thinking. "Duty uniforms first, I think. It should be enough to tide them over until you're done with the dress uniforms. Now how fast can you have at least mine done and..." Trudy paused, probably dreading the figure. "What do I owe you?"
Reply
"Let's see, I'll have to prepare for it but first off, how many people are we counting? Do you have an accurate headcount?" Rein thought about the next part. "As for owing, I don't charge anything nor do I barter, I just want people to come down and wear their clothing proudly, showing off and directing others towards this place. I'm a big fan of passing on good deeds and helping newcomers when they can."
Rein grinned. "And reminding them that they don't have to wear a plantsuit all the time and wear NORMAL clothing is a good idea too."
