It's that time again...

There are few things in the 'verse Kaylee can't stand. One of them, obviously, is that wonderful little group made up of people like Early and Niska. Another is insults to her ship. Possibly the biggest thing on the list, though, is seeing sad and lonely people, mostly because she knows there isn't much she can do to help outside of offering a ( Read more... )

She's heard some pretty odd reasoning before, but this one is kind of taking the cake. Kaylee just laughs and shakes her head.

"No life force gatherin', just some plain ol' hug givin'. Cross my heart."

"'Cause folk need cheerin' up, and sometimes a good hug can do just that. That, 'n I like givin' hugs."

Not everyone gets it, it's okay. Kaylee's a bit used to people thinking her acts of nice are on the odd side of things. "Basically, yes."

She almost feels sorry for the poor guy. Maybe she'll offer him a free hug--OH WAIT.

"Offer stands, even if you don't think you need one."

Kaylee blinked at him a moment, waiting for his rambling to finish before she allowed herself a proper reaction. Then it was all smiles and shaking heads.

"Key words in there're, 'used to be,' yeah? Just 'cause you were one before don't mean you are now, 'n I ain't hardly one to judge after my work back home, seein' as I spent half my time plannin' out illegal recoveries 'n heists. Believe me, I ain't given a hug yet that I've regretted, and I doubt I ever will. If you really don't want one, all you gotta do is say so 'n that's that, but 'M fully willin' to give you one if you do want it."

Thankfully, there weren't many judgmental hero types on board Stacy. Half of them could get lumped with Early and Niska, gorram bunch of creeps.

"Just a teeny tiny small one, then." Kaylee couldn't help feeling a bit proud that he changed his mind (not that he'd ever wanted anything different in the first place, but she wouldn't tell), and she held her arms open enough that he could hug when ready.

Kaylee was plenty patient, letting him take his time with it. It wasn't like there was a line full of angry people waiting for hugs, after all, or a ticking time bomb about to go off if the hug didn't go smoothly. Just a nice hug, one that could happen on its own as Megamind was ready.
