I Think You'd Better Run, Run, Run. [Semi-Open?]

Sherry did her best to be the following: a good student (no problem), a good daughter (...well, she was working on it), and a good person (most of the time, when she wasn't dealing with stupid people). Naturally, like the painful growth spurt she'd been going through, it was a long process. At least she was trying, right ( Read more... )

A hand touched her shoulder, before sliding to her upper arm to lift her easily into a sitting position. Hey look Sherry, it was Kelly. How long she'd been watching was anybody's guess, but that the Spartan was slightly concerned was easy enough to see. Kneeling next to the girl, she gave Sherry a quick once over. Satisfied that nothing was broken or sprained, her features returned to their usual, placid expression as she pulled some disinfectant from a bag she carried ( ... )

Sherry winced as the antiseptic worked its magic on her scrapes. Her science lessons told her that the sting was from exposed little nerve things, and that it was killing any little angry things that had managed to alight on her skin that weren't already there anyway (the body and nature were gross).

"Longer? I thought my legs were already long enough!" Well, not entirely true. There's still a bit of growing to do on them, after all.

It was something she'd need to get used to if she was going to run. Even the best runners fell, Kelly knew that much. Being able to get up and keep running despite the pain was crucial. And besides, a higher tolerance to pain could never be a bad thing.

She couldn't help the smile that tugged at her lips again, though she did her best to quell it. "They are. But you need to utilise them to their fullest capacity, which means taking the longest strides you can, stretching them out as far as you can with each step. It'll also help you keep a more regular, faster pace."

The little girl sighed, resigning herself to this information. It was enough that she could get away from most things, wasn't it? Why was she trying so hard?

Oh, right, because she was trying to be a good Chosen, too. And even though Sherry didn't know why it was she was picked, she at least wanted to be useful.

Sherry stood up, making a face as she irritated her skin and caught the rest of her breath. Her lungs kind of hurt, but in a good way. If... lungs hurting could be inferred as "good", anyway. "Well, I'm ready!"

Kelly wouldn't push her so far that she would break...well at least not beyond mending. She wasn't a Spartan after all, but Kelly would damned well do her best to get her close. Once she was strong enough, they could start doing the fun things, like weapons training.

As Sherry stood up, the Spartan rose with her nodding with satisfaction. Her trainee was a tough one, that was always a good thing, Sherry would make a good soldier yet. "Then give me another five laps." She smiled briefly.

Five? Kelly was trying to kill her! Sherry tried to keep her groaning to herself (if her luck kept going pear-shaped, Kelly would probably assign her more laps!), and started up again.

The first lap hurt, but she grit her teeth and made herself keep going. The second lap went more smoothly, but somewhere between the third and fourth lap, Sherry could feel herself slowing down. And by the fifth, had slowed to a crawl. She kept going, though, determined to complete the lap.
