Mission 01 - Recovery: Group 2

May 18, 2009 23:53

Picard, McCoy, Middle Man, Wendy Watson, Jean, Spock, and Tobias all set off in another direction. Trees and rocks battled for supremacy in this direction, they would have to walk carefully so as not to sprain any ankles. The terrain was of the rather rocky scrub-filled variety.

Tobias morphs again to Hork-Bajir for the transit. He can't carry the communicator in hawk form, and he doesn't want to leave it behind for one reason: He doesn't need it to talk to the others, but they can't reply in thought-speech. At least he got the bonus of the morph being made for climbing and rough terrain. He knows he might need to change morphs again when they arrive though, it all depends what kind of work he has to do.

At this point Picard didn't even feign surprise. "This is rather like when I hiked out in Death Valley during my time in the Academy," he mused, holding out his tricorder to try and get a reading on the pod.

"Excpet here you're far more likely to get attacked by something big, unrecognizable, and probably nasty."

Wednesday's 'voice' comes over the comm rings.

«Be careful, everyone. The tracks I'm seeing suggest much larger creatures than I'd normally expect in this terrain. Certainly not normal wildlife.»

Jean glanced around, her eyebrows furrowing a bit. "Well I'm not sensing anything with around us with any sort of intelligence...." she trailed off and suddenly offered a sheepish smile. "Well outside the crew that is."

< I guess I made a good choice then > Tobias said. < I wonder how much bigger "much bigger" is though. If it's big next to this body, I'm not sure I WANT to know > At least he could do defense if whatever it was wasn't TOO big.

"Wait...don't tell me, let me guess." Bones began with a hint of sarcasm. "It's life...but not as we know it."

< I've seen so much that I don't know what "life as I know it" is anymore. The guy we spent a lot of time fighting had some pretty strange life forms he changed into. Not to mention fighting giant stinky cannibal worms, alien slugs and making friends with alien centaurs. Heck, at the moment, *I'm* probably not life as some people on this ship know it. > He gestured at his bladed body. >

"I think it's safest to say that we should hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Phasers on stun, anyone with powers standby in case we need to defend ourselves. Doctor McCoy, you remain in the middle of the group. We can't have our chief medical officer getting injured."

Spock is already flanking Bones. Extensive service has taught him that there is no such thing as a threshold when it came to the good Doctor's irascibility. It was best for all of them if he just didn't get shot or mauled or half-digested. He'd only complain.

< I'll do that, but if I have to shift my shape again, I can't avoid it taking a couple of minutes. Two or three. That's why I chose this form. > He'd thought of going Andalite too but he felt safer having a few more blades on his person. Although he did wish he had the Andalite stalk eyes at the moment. He was mentally reviewing his morphs anyway. Polar bear? Maybe. Taxxon? Good if he had to dig fast, but otherwise he wasn't going near it. Cheetah? Only good for short bursts, and rather small as 'big' cats go. Bull? Maybe. Overall this was his best big fighting morph though.

Jean doesn't say anything for a few moments as the team weave and pick their way carefully through the trees and over the rocks. It all very easily could have been an Earth landscape, and for a brief moment, it brought a slight smile to her lips.

She paused, her head cocked a little to the side as she once again did a mental sweep of the area. Still she didn't sense humanoid creatures outside the crew who had come off of the ship. "How far exactly is the pod from here?" She finally asked.

Wendy looked at Jean, raising an eyebrow. That expression on her face...for a moment, Wendy was worried that Jean was going to...well...but that wasn't possible.

Right?

"Not sure," she said after a moment. She looks around at her other team-members. "Anyone?"
