Outbreak

Sep 25, 2010 20:53

It was night on the ship - or at least as close to night as the ship ever got.

But while most of the crew slept, something had been released from within the ship. Something invisible, something undetectable, and something very, very dangerous.

If you passed through parts of the City, you might start to feel a little sick...

Nanashi pulled the sheets off of her bed and covered Fletcher with them. Of course over the years some of her human children got sick, and she knew the standard practices. Use cold water on a cloth to keep the fever down, and usually a few drops of her blood would quickly kick the sickness out of their system, however, she was not feeling right herself. She was not about to risk having her blood get him sick with something else. Something that could stand up to Vampire blood.

She grabbed the garbage pail and brought it next to him in case he felt that he needed to use it. Brushing his hair away from his face she asks, "Have you been anywhere unusual? Have you seen anyone who is sick?" Aside from her, of course. She was feeling rather pale, though with her skin tone, it was probably hard for anyone without enhanced vision to notice. She also felt, as Fletcher said, hot and cold at once. She never felt cold. Not like this. This was uncomfortable. Temperature never really made her uncomfortable. And this nausea. She felt as if she had just eaten mortal food, when she knew she hadn't.

Her gut was telling her that she very well might be the first of the two to need that garbage pail.

"Nuh-uh..." He shook his head. He was practically cocooned in those blankets, trying to stop the chills. "I don't think so... Just went to the city and Hydroponics. And the mess hall."

Nearby, Jujube whined. Something was wrong with his human, and he didn't like that.

Nausea... it could be something he ate, but Stacy was supposed to be very careful about that, plus she hadn't gone to the mess hall in a while. Between Rei and the stockpile from Zokez II she hadn't had the need. She had been in the city though, and illnesses could spread quickly across a city, though the city in the ship was rather different from the usual city.

She scratched behind the dog's ear and lifted him up onto the bed. Not only did Fletcher cherish the little alien dog, but his body heat would help Fletcher warm up.

She shivered and adjusted her cloak before stroking Fletcher's back. "You should rest. Sleep." She had a feeling that wouldn't happen if he felt like her, like she had to get up and go do something.

The puppy nuzzled up close to Fletcher, but the boy wasn't in any mood to sleep. "I'm not tired," he grumbled.

He was feeling exactly the same as she was. That was bad. She stood up and stroked Fltcher's face, "Come on dear, we need to ge-" She couldn't stand the nausea any longer. Her body did it's best to throw up, but lacking actual bile all that came up was the small amount of blood she had taken as her last meal.

She wiped it away from her mouth, instinctually licking it off her hand. It still tasted absolutely normal, which made sense given her physiology. However she was rather confused. She had never thrown up blood before. She shook her head and continued, "We need to get both of us down to medbay."

Fletcher watched Nanashi and flinched. That was just-- gross. And Jujube whined.

"Do we have to?"

She was glad she had brought the pail over, as it meant there was nothing to try to clean up. She stood again, as if nothing had happened, and gave Fletcher that motherly glare, "You are burning up little one. That is very bad. Now, I can carry you down, or you can walk, but either way, you are coming with me." She was more than happy to carry Fletcher, but she had the feeling that walking would help relieve that feeling of restlessness that they both had.

Fletcher groaned and pushed himself up so he was sitting. Maybe going there would help... Nanashi was an adult, she knew best. "Okay... Jujube, stay here," he ordered.

She held her hand out with a soft smile, "I'm sure the doctors can do something to make you feel a little better."

He nodded, took her hand, and stood up. He was a little wobbly on his feet, and all of a sudden he found he really needed to use that bucket. So he did.

"...'kay," he finally said weakly. "Let's go."
