Game Over, Man [Part 2]

In the complex, deeper into it near the core, several of the away team were all strung up near each other, around a clutch of disgusting looking eggs. Two appeared to have already been hatched. The rest were waiting. They were bound to the walls by slime and ick, some sort of substance spit up by the creatures that may as well have been quick-dry ( Read more... )

Setsuna ducked into the room, short swords in hand, ready to be attacked. But so far they hadn't met with the enemy yet. She certainly wasn't letting down her guard, but the storeroom they'd found was interesting enough that she could relax and study her surroundings for a moment.

The swordswoman looked over the racks of equipment with an analytical eye. Mining equipment it might have been, but it could be turned to offensive purposes as well. Unfortunately, Setsuna had absolutely no training with guns or other ranged weaponry. She'd be more of a danger to herself than to the aliens with most of these devices...

One item caught Setsuna's eye. In a way, it resembled a large flashlight with a thick handle on the end. It didn't appear to be a ranged weapon... She picked it up, carefully aiming at a portion of the wall that seemed least likely to collapse (just in case she was mistaken), and pulled the trigger to test it.

Instead of a missile or laser blast, what emerged from the handheld unit was an ice-blue beam, extending perhaps 2 feet out before it stopped. Setsuna stared at the beam, hearing the air crackle faintly against it. It almost looked like the blade of a chainsaw... She picked up a stray piece of metal shelving from the ground. Tossing it into the air, she adjusted her grip on the saw's handle, spun it around twice, and neatly bisected the piece of metal before it even started to fall.

"I believe I can work with this," she commented.

"Ee chee wa maa!" Kettch stared wide eyed at the glowing blade in Setsuna's hands. Truly these weapons must be a gift from the gods. After all, the legendary heroes were often given magical weapons by the gods.

Looking around, he spotted another of the magical weapons sitting dormant on a rack. Quickly he shifted his blaster rifle to rest across his back where his spear had been before it was melted by the demon blood. He trotted over and stood up on his tippy toes to reach up and grasp the handle. Glancing over at Setsuna, he saw how she held it and copied her, holding it away from his body.

He gasped in delight as he activated it. "Yubnub!" His eyes reflected the glow of the blade as he moved it back and forth to test the balance. It was as if the blade weighed nothing and only the handle had heft!

"Yun yum! Surely this is a gift of the Light Spirit to strike down the demon servants of the Night Spirit!" He lifted the glowing blade high. "With these magic weapons we will rescue our comrades!"

"Was this a mining operation or an armory?" Kang snorted, noticing immediately how most of the equipment in the room could be used offensively.

Weapons were nice, though. Weapons were very nice. He had been afraid that his own would be destroyed by the acidic blood of the creatures fairly quickly into any fight.

He looked over the selection, specifically for something that wouldn't be too much of a hassle to handle, and his eyes settled on something that resembled a gun; he was very glad that he'd learned how to use one over the past few months. Careful to keep the end pointed away from everyone else, he tested it out, and grinned when a metal spike embedded itself in the wall and it sparked with electricity.

Oh, he was bringing this back with him if at all possible.

"If you're going to pick up something here, do it quick. We need to move."

Tobias was riding on Setsuna's shoulder, conserving energy until the time came to morph. Without updrafts in the tunnels, he would tire quickly flapping all the way through. He too was surprised by the array of weaponry, even though he wasn't picking anything up here.

Stoick wasn't far behind in entering the room, though he stopped almost immediately in the doorway. An armory? But he didn't recognize it as one at first. He didn't see the typical warhammers, swords and shields he was used to. That didn't keep him from looking at the weapons however.

He paused by one that looked vaguely like his warhammer, but with a sharp pointed end. Now that he could use. Especially since his hammer hadn't fared well in the struggle against the acid blood, much like his shield. He dropped the shield, wincing as his arm twinged in pain but noticing that the shield practically disintegrated. The acid blood had eaten through the wood so it would have been useless anyway.

He picked up the pick and tested its weight. Perfect. He noticed a small folding portion on the other end and carefully pulled it out. For the first time since they had landed here, he smiled.

"Whatever accursed creatures walk through these dark tunnels, we'll give 'em something to fear."

Sokka was watching the others and occasionally casting furtive glances out the doorway. He wasn't bothering to rearm himself, considering his normal armament had survived intact and seemed to have done well against the strange creatures so far.

"I don't see anything. Doesn't mean it's not there..." He muttered, half to himself. There were very good reasons to fear the dark, even at the South Pole, some of which are the freezing cold and dangerous weather. The others are polar bear-seals.

The same Protoculture edicts that forbade the Zentraedi the arts of repair looked dimly on the use of tools for other than their specified purpose, so the Miclonian propensity for improvisation always came as surprise to Suriz, even when it might seem obvious to someone else. Still, she was happy to see her allies acquiring... weapons... that would be of greater use against their foe than those they'd brought originally. As long as they had built-in power and weren't too unwieldy any tool meant to breach hard stone would probably have a deadly effect even on the aliens' carapaces.

"Good attitude," she commented on Sokka's muttered observation as she joined him in keeping watch while the others finished testing their new gear.
