After action [open]

Jul 05, 2010 22:01

Thrawn had gathered and reviewed every scrap of information Stacy had about the disastrous battle with the Ohm--every after-action report, every camera angle. Now, in the Sensorium, he was watching the skirmish unfold in three unsettling dimensions. It was a reconstruction, only as good as the crews' accounts and his own tactical skill. Needless to say, after recent events, Gavin was itching to get his hands on his fighter for sim time. He had missed out on the entire battle due to a slight error in his own judgment though there wouldn't really have been a way around such things. Which was why the young man had to pause as he stepped in to the sensoriums while tugging his flight gloves on.

All around him the battle was raging in some form or fashion in a near cohesively orchestrated movements that left his jaw dropping. Gavin didn't even see the figure in the room watching the footage until he had found himself stepping further inside. It was a mess to say the least. One disastrous mess that left the youth with a soured expression across his face. Maybe he wasn't so mad he had missed it after all. "So this is the mess everyone has been talking about..." Darklighter spoke soft though with an even tone showing his discontent for the images before him.

At that, Thrawn turned to look at the newcomer, and one blue-black eyebrow went up in as much surprise as he ever showed. "Darklighter." Thrawn knew the man from his extensive Imperial dossier, but Tycho had given no indication he was aboard during the briefing he'd given Thrawn earlier--when Gavin was busy chasing down non-existent cake.

Even if he didn't personally know the man as well as Thrawn probably knew him, that wasn't going to stop the young pilot from being somewhat nice. After all their war was over for a new one right? New leaf, turning of the page, and so on so forth. No one had yet mentioned to him that the blue-skinned man was on the ship. His frown was a mix for the footage around them and upon the discovery. "Admiral."

Brown eyes flickered up towards something as it passed above them, smiling as he saw an X-wing though it was brief. There was just to much chaos going on to enjoy watching a good firefight. "So what's the damage? I know the squad did well per the usual, but no one will say a word about the rest of the battle."

"Surprisingly minimal. No deaths among the crew, though by all rights there should have been." Thrawn shook his head in disbelief. "That's a fluke that won't happen again."

"Fluke or a stroke of pure luck. I don't think any higher being or the Force is going to help a second time. Not if this was the first engagement." While Gavin was young he had an eye for things. Sure he wasn't as great a tactician as Thrawn, but the man had a sense about him. Gavin mostly called it doing what felt right or natural and so far it had helped him as his own skills were improving. "Are all these the reports from all the engagements?"

It was impressive if it was. Even if it wasn't he knew the man was a tactical genius or else he wouldn't have risen as high as he did in the Empire. "Or... you know. Just steps to improving the actual feed to show the people how it should have gone?"

"Reconstructions based on such. This," Thrawn sent a thought at Stacy and removed his additions, "represents the original reports and the ship's sensor records." It was the usual disconnected welter of eyewitness accounts and incomplete surveillance that required an expert's touch for any sense to be made of it.

Well Gavin was impressed. Thrawn was a genius when it came to recreating and placing events in to order the way they needed to be and this was proof at how the master worked. Filling in the blanks with actions that were the most probable to happening from reports that were missing events wasn't something that the young man envied him for doing though it had to be done. Out of anyone from his home this man was the most qualified by far. "I got to admit, that's pretty impressive. Pretty seamless between the transitions of the most likely outcomes."

For a moment the young Rogue fell silent, crossing his arms as he watched the way the Ohm moved. It didn't take a minute before a frown was crossing his face in thought. "They remind me of fire wasps. The way they move and work."

"Thank you." Underscoring the point, another portion of the battle filled itself in at last, and the focus of the map shifted to a different gray area as Thrawn continued his reconstruction. "Their battle tactics are consonant with individual units being low-value, which is an insect-like trait."
