((Bendy timed to before podpop)) Relaxing

Apr 21, 2009 11:12

Sparhawk is not normally one for brooding. His only real fit of brooding occured after his wife was kidnapped, and even then it mostly consisted of Sparhawk thinking of ways to track down those responsible, and what he would do with them when he caught up to them ( Read more... )

Kate was coming off from a patrol, and was stopping in to relax for a bit before curling up with something to read. She had her sword at her side, and her bow up on her shoulder along with her quiver.

"This was your home?" She quietly asked. "Seems peaceful."

Sparhawk rises smoothly from his log, and offers a bow to Kate, trying not to eye the sword and bow. That would be bad manners.

"It's the home of my squires, Lady. Asalade always made me welcome. It seemed like a good place to think. More so than the chapterhouse."

She smiled at that, and offered a curtesy out of respect in turn.

"The chapterhouse? Is that like a barracks or training place? Or both?"

"Both. We train in the motherhouse, and end up at one of the chapterhouses until we're needed," Sparhawk replies, moving aside slightly to offer Kate his place on the log if she so desires.

"Although I seem to spend most of my time running about trying to put out trouble," he adds, and this is said with a touch of self depreciation.

She sat down with a "Thanks," and a smile.

Kate then added, "Have a place like that, called the Clubhouse. Kind of our headquarters. And know something about putting out trouble."

Sparhawk gives his blade a quick look, before sheathing it back in the scabbard at his waist. It will do for the moment, and conversation is better than introspection.

"Are you a Knight of your world?" he asks.

"Good blade," she remarked in passing.

Kate then met his eyes again as she replied, "Sort of, if you've spoken with the other superheroes around here. I'm with the Young Avengers. We all volunteered to go out and stop the enemies no single hero can face."

"Thank you," Sparhark replies to the comment about the blade, though it's disconcerting to him to have a lady note it. Apart from the usual bawdy jokes that is.

Superheroing is not an easy concept for a knight to wrap his head around, but Sparhawk is trying his best. After all, most of those on the ship seem to have different abilities.

"Are there none older than yourself who would take on this task?" and he pauses for a second, assessing what he just said. "That sounds more offensive than I meant. It's hard not to apply my world and its standards to others."

Foot in mouth Sparhawk.

"There are and were. They had disbanded for a while so a couple of guys got together to start a new group. I ran into them when my sister's wedding was held hostage. Could see the boys needed a lot of help so helped them with it, and joined afterwards. They accepted me and Cassie, and we try to work together. Even with problems here and there."

Sparhawk frowns. "They held your sister's wedding hostage? I hope they received the chastisement they deserved."

Ladies in Sparhawk's book should be treated gently, especially at a wedding. And chastisement is something that he's keen on.

"Weddings are meant to be happy affairs."

Kate nodded and smirked a little, "Oh they definitely did. Learned not to hold somebody like me for one thing." She stabbed one in the leg, and disarmed another. Without needed the male Young Avengers help. If anything, they needed her help to take control of the situation.

"Good," is Sparhawk's emphatic response, tempered by a smile.

“Are you one of those who have...powers, I understand is the term. Or would that be considered a prying question in your world?”

He's trying to figure out the conventions here. The last thing he needs is a Violation from Stacey for starting an honour duel.

She shook her head, and did seem briefly annoyed since everybody asks.

"No I have fighting skills, and doesn't take powers to be a hero. Which I figured you would understand better than most."

If anything, Sparhawk seems to relax. Physical prowess is something that he can relate to better than the supernatural. He can deal with weird stuff, he just prefers violence.

"I do understand, though I'm sure you think I'm clueless," and for a moment Sparhawk wishes that Kalten was here. He knows how to talk to ladies. Sparhawk finds it hard to talk to his wife sometimes.

"Would you know much hand to hand combat?"

Smooth.

"Not that clueless, just tired of having to justify myself to others for what I do, you know? Having to prove myself."

Kate then nodded, and remarked, "I do, including several forms of martial arts and kickboxing. ...This an offer to spar sometime?"

"I apologize if I gave you the idea that you should prove yourself," Sparhawk says quietly. "And while I would gladly spar with you, I'm sure that you'd take me down easily. Our training is geared more to using our horses, armour and broadswords. Hand to hand is rather more ignored."

He smiles in memory. "An Atan warrior managed to put my friend Kalten flat on his back in a few seconds. And seeing as there are no horses, I have no armour, and I'm more likely to take down friends in these narrow spaces, I think more training in hand to hand would be needed."

Can you tell he's been thinking about this a lot, Kate?
