Down on the surface of the planet Zokez II, Stacy's erstwhile (and hopefully much more relaxed) crew began receiving messages over their comm rings and omnicoms

It had taken a little cajoling and outright begging, but Miku had been able to convince the hotel staff to let her into Steve's room so that she could pack up his belongings. It was one thing to have to leave with no souvenirs, it was another to lose all of his possessions.
And with as bad as his vacation (and thus, her own) had turned, it would be rubbing salt in the wound to lose everything, too. And then possibly pouring vinegar on it, Miku was sure. She rolled the little anti-gravity cart onto the deck, unloaded it with the ridiculous efficiency she had, and sat down beside her little pile of luggage. Miku's face looked drawn and somber, the way a day and a night of little sleep and much worry could.
She hesitated, glancing up once to meet Nanoha's eyes. To tell, or to remain silent. It wasn't her place to go talking about Steve and Steve's Condition. In fact, Miku was sure that even talking about it was a great, big, fat NO. She shifted in her seat beside the luggage.
"I... It..." she breathed deeply and looked at her knees. "It's nothing, Nanoha-chan. I'll be fine."
"I know," Miku murmured and rested her head against the luggage. "Steve was injured, rather badly." At least, from the way he'd been talking... Miku shook her head to clear it of unnecessary thoughts and continued. "And won't let me see him, because of that." Even though he'd apologized.
Miku nodded, "Someone sicced an AI on him." She fumbled with her sidebag a moment and pulled out her omnicomm. "He posted about it on the channel, see?" Miku pointed to the conversation she'd had with him, keeping above the posts that were locked for good reason. "We fought a bit, and I stormed up to see him, but... they wouldn't let me."
She hugged Nanoha back, "It will be fine. It will be just fine." At least, if she kept telling herself that, Miku was sure that would be true.
"Oh, Miku-chan..." Nanoha pulled her just that much harder, having read the conversation - though her mind was already racing to try to piece things together. An AI? Had it been GLaDOS?
"It will be. I'm sure of it - they wouldn't let anything happen to him. They'll take care of him, I promise."
"I hope so," Miku replied quietly and put the omnicomm away. "Until then, I get to wait and worry, even if he told me not to." She sighed heavily and pursed her lips.
Still, she looked for a way to make Nanoha be less concerned, "On the bright side, at least we made some memories."
Miku nodded. "I did." Even just hanging around, or finding sneaky ways to go and get Steve's new helmet (which was in an inconspicuous box atop the rest of the luggage) had been fun. If that stupid AI hadn't hurt him, if he'd just gotten his treatment and come back down, then Steve would be here, too. "We did. I just wish this hadn't been soured."
"It was his birthday," Miku said quietly. "So, yes, I got him something. I was going to give it to him, but then this happened. He thought I was looking for myself, so I had to lie a little bit."
She didn't think he'd mind that, though. Miku smiled a little bit.
"Ah, I guess that's true." Then again, she could always give him a different present later. "I bet he'd like something better to eat than the grey-goop. I did my best to buy groceries." Those were now safely in the mess hall.
Hey, she'd needed something to do while wringing her hands and worrying.

Nanoha didn't know how - or the circumstances. She could find those out later, if they mattered.
But right now, she just decided to give Miku a warm hug. "I'm so sorry..."

"And that's true, we did. Did you have a good time here?"

She stepped back from her friend, tilting her head to the side. "Did you get him a gift?"
