Zuko's not familiar with New York. So he gives the distant buildings and their strange architecture a suspicious, analytical look before casting his gaze around the rest of the scene. A garden, sort of - it has the look of a cultivated meadow, but the flowers are sparse, almost unplanned, very different from the elaborate parks and gardens of his youth. A good, big space for running around. He almost expects to see kids chasing each other.
Then he sees Kate's arrows, a bit off target, and then Kate, slumped on the ground. He's not good with crying girls, but turning around with out a word would be . . . well, not a very good way to make allies, and his uncle would tell him that allies (Uncle would call them "friends") are what he should be making here.
Though to be fair, Zuko's pretty certain that Iroh would already be friends with at least two thirds of the crew if he was around. The younger prince of the Fire Nation just isn't that social.
"You're good," he says, gruffly, aiming for a change in subject. He shrugs his shoulders towards her arrows. They're off the mark, but not everybody has to be a Yu-Yan Archer.
She glanced up and quickly wiped her eyes. Kate used the tree to support herself standing up before replying, "Thanks, usually better. Been some bad days you know?"
He can remember her from the tables in the medlab - one of the infected. A slight shudder runs through Zuko's body as he thinks of it again - of something else controlling his body, speaking his words. More than horrifying.
"I'm Zuko. Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation. I'm pleased to meet you."
Kate's eyebrows went up on the Lady Bishop part, and she almost corrected him to use Kate instead. But it was a nice gesture really.
She then gestured to a point northwest, "Thank you, our house up that way and a few blocks over, well just mine and my dad's since my sister's married, and my mom's been gone a few years now. Or ...where it's supposed to be."
Kate shook her head, "She's not missing. I meant gone as in she died. Sorry about yours though."
She added, "It's what I know, and sure, I grew up here. Know the city really well, and like to have the chance to help look after it. ...Had the chance anyway." Since patrols here weren't the same as ones back home.
"Not with the police or any kind of government. Well shouldn't be really." There was a brief grimace on her face as she recalled the Civil War events back home.
The only vigilante Zuko has met is Jet, and while his vigilantism did not leave a particularly good impression, Kate seems a bit more reasonable. Why, is your government corrupt?"
"Kind of, and it's the law that wants us to register with the government that's corrupt. It's like they want to control us when we're only trying to help and stop the ones who can't be stopped by the police."

He bows, stiffly and formally.
"Is this your home?"

"Kate Bishop, also Hawkeye of the Young Avengers. It's an honor to meet you, your highness."
She then added, "Some of it, I'm from New York, and this is Central Park. Just wanted something familiar for once."

. . . actually, someone who has manners after hearing his name and title is sort of a novel in and of themselves, these days. "And you, Lady Bishop."
He looks around the park again. "It's nice here. You have a beautiful home."
The buildings are pretty, too. At a distance.

"I'm sorry about your mother," he adds. "Mine is missing, too. I haven't seen her since I was eleven."

"You were part of the police?"
She has that look about her eyes that says "soldier." Zuko believes it.

And she was a well trained fighter, her very stance reveling it.

Maybe like the Dai Li? Only, you know, hopefully not corrupt and disloyal.

"It is. And well, for one thing, they don't have the equipment and guys to handle people with freezing powers, fire, or super strength."
