The Woman In The Glasses [Open]

Feb 04, 2010 13:30

Pressing her lips together, Doctor Temperance Brennan's forehead furrowed as she stared intently through a pair of rather ridiculous glasses at a shard of alien bone. While they might have been old lady's glasses, she had actually found them more useful than some of the microscopes she was use to handling, and she didn't need to be hunched over for ( Read more... )

"Hmm... I know it was around here somewhere..." Rein flitted to the side.

"Or maybe over here..." stated Rein, rubbing her head. "Mou, I'm totally lost! I shouldn't have left my map behind!"

Floating towards the nearest door, she peeked in and found someone working there. Bones? Must be a CSI of some sort...

"Excuse me?" called out Rein as she floated into the room. "I'm kind of lost. Do you know how to get to Engineering from here desu?"

"No," Tempe replied as she places a sliver of bone of a slide and slid over to one of the huge microscopes.

"You should have a map on your omnicom though," she offered as she pushed the glasses up on top of her head as she slid the slide under the lense of the microscope.

"Ah heh, that's the thing really. I forgot my omnicom back in my room..." remarked Rein, rubbing her head embarrassed. "It's a little big for me to be carrying around all the time."

Tempe sighed and stared at the microscope for a moment, before reaching down and pulling her own omnicom out of the large pocket of her labcoat.

Swiveling around to face the lost person, she quickly pulled up the map and held it out to her. "You can look at the map on mine, though it would behove you not to leave your omincom behind again or risk the chance of getting lost again."

"Ah, thank you very much!" Rein took the Omnicom and committed the path to memory before holding it out for her to take. "Again, thank you. I'm Reinforce, but you can call me Rein. Nice to meet you ma'am."

"You're welcome," Tempe said, taking the omnicom back and placed it on the table. She'd never been good at social nicities, but she managed a polite nod and smile. "Likewise. I'm Doctor Temperance Brennan." She paused for a moment before continuing. "You can call me Brennan if you like."

"Brennan-sensei," nodded Rein politely. "I'm just curious, are you a CSI or something similar?"

Tempe's eyebrow arched a little and she shook her head. "No, I'm a Forensic Anthropologist," she corrected. "*Nihongo o hanashimasu ka?"

*Do you speak Japanese?

Rein nodded and then smiled, hearing her native language. "Hai desu! I was born and raised in Japan actually. Before we moved to Midchilda at least. It's been a long time since I've heard the native language but I remember it well."

"I learned it while I was in school, myself. It was quite helpful the few times I went to Japan for work." Tempe said with a nod before glancing over at her microscope.

OK, she'd done the social politeness thing....

"I hope you can find your way to Engineering now." Yes, she can be a little abrupt.

Rein's used to abruptness, with Signum as a friend. "Thank you very much Brennan-sensei. I'll be on my way! Bye!"

And with that, Rein floated away with a little smile. She had met someone new.
