Some cheer was definitely needed on this ship. Whatever chance meeting had brought Kaylee and Claudia together in mechanical mischief had also set their minds to turning over what they could possibly do to get some smiles back on the faces of those onboard ( Read more... )

There was a major problem with this whole 'costume party' idea for Blin... he had no idea what he should wear. Side effect of not being able to see what not really caring what you wear, and not knowing what defines a costume and what doesn't. So, he had to fall back on the one time he had been to a costume party, years ago, when he still worked for Helix.

He'd been lucky back then to have Ronin for a friend, a guy who pointed out to Blin that the company forced them to basically wear costumes whenever they were out on missions, so there was some irony to seeing every at a costume ball dressed up in other ridiculous outfits, and why don't you wear this, B, it'll be hilarious... Well, it'd worked. People had laughed and had fun, and due to the costume's design he didn't feel too out of place. Whoever this Bruce Campbell guy was, he had some pretty sweet outfits.

So, with the magic of the sensoriums, that was how Blin came dressed up this time; some guy named Autolycus from some TV show he'd never seen.

Boy, it'd really suck if this guy was actually on the ship.. infinite universes and all. But, what're ya gonna do, right?

He stood off to the side, near one of the pillars of the ballroom, and decided to watch for a bit first, see just what people did. It always seemed best that way.

Grinning, Batgirl skidded to a halt next to him. "Grooooovy costume!" She grinned, tilting her head a little to the side. "Who are you suppose to be exactly?"

"Honestly? I'm none too sure meself. Some character in some TV show years ago. All I really remember is the actor's name was Bruce Campbell. A good friend of mine used to rave about the guy. I can tell ye my name, at the least. Blin. If I may ask, who are you tonight?" This was the major flaw in costume parties; they lost their attraction when you knew who people were mostly by the sound of their voices. But, whoever she was, she was a nice shade of happy.

Man, knowing the names for colors is something sighted people take advantage of.

Her eyes widened the minute he'd said the actor's name. "Ooooooh! You're suppose to be that dude from Xena: Warrior Princess!" She grinned. "He was pretty damn awesome! Good costume idea."

She eyed him for a moment, wondering if he was serious, but after a moment she shrugged it off. "I'm Claudia and I'm suppose to be the first ever Batgirl! You know from when Adam West was Batman? KA-POW and everything?"

"Ah. I remember the show, but I can't say as I've seen it. I can't say as I've seen much of anything, actually." He smiled and tapped his sunglasses. Despite it not matching his costume, he kept them on (kept his cane, as well. Wouldn't be proper to walk into things at a party, after all). The term 'soulless eyes' had been tossed around before, and he rather liked to avoid that.

"It's nice to meet you, Claudia. Call me Blin, please." He flashed a smile. The same smile that'd save his ass in many occasions (usually from litigation, but sometimes just from drunks).

It took a moment for it to sink in that dude was blind, and her mouth made a small 'O' shape. "Ah, well. Hmmm." What was she suppose to say? Dude that sucks? Or maybe: Dude that really sucks, what's it like to be blind by the way? Yeah, not.

Thankfully, he saved her from having to make a complete ass of herself. "It's nice to meet you too, Blin." She grinned, rocking back on her heels. "So what do you think of this place so far?"

"God's honest? It's surprisingly upbeat, considering recent events. The ship itself is unnecessarily large, in need of some work, and confusingly designed. Whoever is in charge has some command issues to work out, and whoever selected which ones of us would be pulled from our dimensions really didn't think the 'military' thing through very well; I've already gotten to know a lot of people who are not 'follow the leader' types, myself included." He sighed.

"But, it beats the alternative. I didn't have a lot going for me back home, and this definitely shakes things up. I think I'm gonna like it here, in the end."

What? He walked around. He observed.
