Hello, Again

"Fine!" a loud male voice with a noticeable Cajun accent echoed down the hallway of the ship. If one were to come around the corner, they would notice a tall, brown haired man with fiery red eyes, and wearing a brown duster of his plant uniform, standing in the middle of one of the ship's hallways, shouting at--the wall? Some may recognize and ( Read more... )

Katara had been walking down the halls, perfectly content in her own thoughts when she heard the noticeable accent that she'd heard before. She'd thought he'd disappeared, but it looked as if he were back, and it actually made her a little happy to see friends she'd thought were gone.

"Gambit!" She lost no time giving the Cajun a quick hug. "You're still here! Where've you been?"

He let out a slight 'oof' sound as Katara threw her arms around him and squeezed the breath from his lungs with her sudden hug. "Oui, petite," he said with a chuckle, returning the brief hug before the girl pulled away again. "I still here. Gambit like gators in de bayou, you may not always see me, but I always dere."

Katara giggled. She was slight amused by the fact that even with adults, a hug was something none of them were really ever used to. The women were a little more receptive, but men were certainly awkward around it.

She had no idea what a Bayou was, but she would make sure to put that on her "need to learn" words.

"It's good to see you Gambit! What have you been up to?"

"Noting exciting, Katara. Just jumping through hoops for some cake. But dat computer lady, she play Gambit for de fool. She didn't give it to me," he explained--albeit in his own little way. "But dat ok. We just see if I ask her to dance again?"

"Oh, you too?" Katara made an exasperated sigh. She hadn't actually seen or experienced the AI herself. "I've heard of GLADOS. She does that a lot. You should just ignore her."

She paused. "What's the last thing you remember?"

He paused, thinking, as he tried to recall the last moment before he'd found himself being toyed with by the troublesome AI known as GLaDOS. "I don't know. Someting about a plan to get to de bridge. Dat's about all."

"Oh, okay," Katara said, trying to figure out the best possible way to describe what happened. "Well, we eventually reached the bridge, but we had to fight pirates. People got hurt and...Brainiac 5, the robot, was ultimately destroyed."

She sighed. "And there were also zombies taht managed to infect quite a few in the pod. We succeeded, but it wasn't exactly the best mission ever."

"Everybody come out all right?" Gambit asked, concerned. He may not have known many of his fellow crew members, or known any of them well, but he did know that there were quite a few children amongst them. Children who seemed to be pretty defenseless and might easily be hurt.

"Besides Brainiac?" Katara looked a little bothered, but continued. "Almost everyone except Jaime and Paco. Jaime gave off the look he was dead when he was only really injured, and Paco lost his arm. Other than that, most people are physically okay."

She sighed. "Most of them were left behind and had to fight the zombies."

"Zombies? What you mean 'zombies?' Who let de zombies on board?" Gambit asked. He didn't think he'd been gone all that long, but apparently there had been quite a 'party' while he had.

"The undead," Katara said, "They were released when Hal, the AI we were fighting, wanted to restrain us. He sent them out to try and hurt the people left behind. Lucky for us they're a lot stronger than we thought."
