"Well, ain't this a boondoggle." Tess looks up at Goliath, hands resting lightly on her hips. "I wonder who decided to let this system have charge o'stuff."
Goliath has pressed his talons up against the forcefield and is feeling around for his way out. Yes, he looks like a mime. A mime that could rip your limbs off and beat you to death with them. You may commence with your nightmares as usual.
"I do not understand. There is nothing to defend, and nothing to shield us from. This barrier presents no reason for being."
He doesn't get the mistletoe. He hasn't even noticed it yet, and why would a twig be linked to greenery?
"Participation is required. Why wouldn't you want to participate?"
Goliath retracts his wings, not folding them, still not at ease. He looks from the mistletoe to Tess.
"You must understand." He cannot do this. But it would not be responsible to keep them both trapped here forever. "Gargoyles are not -" as free with their affection as humans are. "My kind mates for life, and I -" became the exception to that rule when it became clear Demona would not, could not be his Angel of the Night anymore, when Elisa became first in his heart more quickly than he ever expected of any woman. "I am sure that many men would be pleased to show you affection, but I have -" A mate? Not in the technical sense. "I am not -"
He's getting very flustered, really, it's sort of amusing.
Tess holds up a finger in a little bit of a 'shush' gesture. "Lean forward a little bit," she says as she slides over towards him and reaches up to grab his shoulders. With his height, it's a little awkward to do what's basically a pull-up so she can press in to give him a little peck of a kiss on the lips, but she is stronger than she looks.
That odd membrane on her face-it's still there-gives a bit of a thinly insulated quality to it, at least.
That's exactly what Elisa did. The last time he remembers seeing her.
Goliath doesn't want to hurt Tess, but he shakes her, pretty firmly, off, stumbling backwards and beyond the range of the forcefield, which has disappeared.
"Well." He clears his throat. He blushes a darker shade of purple. "That was." He stands there a moment, not saying what that was. He clears his throat one more time before going on.
"You understand, this, ah - this does not mean anything. We are not courting now."
Because that would just be weird, because she is 1) human and 2) not Elisa.
"O'course not," Tess says with a gentle smile. "The way you're actin', I figure you get somebody else fer you." She lets out a soft little laugh-just to bleed off some of the tension. "But I'd be doin' her-her?-well, it'd be a right disservice to let you get hurtin' yerself just tryin' t'break outta somethin' like that."
"I have no interest in cake."
Nevertheless, Goliath cannot leave his position beneath the small piece of greenery. How irksome.

Tess' face twists a little as she looks up and around for the nonspecific source of the voice. And then she spots the almost-not-quite mistletoe...
Goliath might have difficulty figuring out why she's broken into a giggle.

He looks at Tess, then at the mistletoe, then at Tess again. "There is some significance to this that I am not aware of."
YOU BETTER TELL HIM WHAT IT IS. Or he'll glare at the mistletoe some more.

It seems to be amusing her much more than bothering, though.

Goliath's sudden attempt to flare his wings out is foiled when they smack into the forcefield surrounding him. Ouch, that will leave bruises.
His roar settles into a growl as he addresses the mistletoe directly, pointing at Tess. "She is not my mate! I will do no such thing!"

A gloved hand settles over her mouth until she can manage to temper her grin into a more neutral (but still positive) look.
