Turkey Day!

Nov 25, 2009 23:06

'Twas the day of Thanksgiving, and all through the meatship's cafeteria, real, well-cooked food was laid out on the table. Turkey, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a myriad of other foods had been prepared by Chef Stoppable.

The appetizing smells coming from the cafeteria are an irresistible lure for a certain young Scot, and he pokes his head in to see what's going on. His eyes widen as he takes in all of the food, and he quickly steps into the room to get a better look.

"What's this for?" Jamie had not actually meant to say that out loud, so the question's not actually directed at anyone in particular.

"Dude, Thanksgiving." Yes, Ron doesn't know they don't have that in Scotland.

"Thanksgiving." Jamie tries the word out for size while he tries to think of what it is. Saying it doesn't really help, but maybe if he goes for the obvious... "So, ye are giving thanks, then?" Makes some sort of sense, given the word. Then his expression lights up. "Oh. Is this a giving thanks for the real food?"

Well, at least he didn't say 'Oh, aye, that' this time.

Something in Ron's brain clicks. Unfortunately, it's the wrong thing, because he assumes Jamie is from a world that doesn't have Thanksgiving.

"It's for giving thanks in general. It's a holiday where I'm from, and if I'm right it's supposed to be roughly today, so I figured I'd use the real food a cook a feast to boost crew morale and all that."

There's a certain point for Jamie where that actually became true (sort of), so it's not too far off the mark as assumptions go.

"Ye cooked all this?" Jamie is impressed, given how much food is there. "I didna realize Stacy had cooking facilities, but if there's real food it makes sense." He wonders, idly, if there's roast beef in those stores somewhere, but is more than willing to eat what's available. Although it would probably be polite to see who else arrives first, so he opts for questions while he waits.

"So, where are ye from that has this as a holiday?" he asks curiously.

"Earth." Yeeah, Ron really does not know they don't celebrate Thanksgiving everywhere on Earth. Rufus just facepaws.

Jamie is still pretty confused, judging from the look on his face. "I'm from Earth, too," he offers after a moment. "Scotland, actually."

He frowns, thinking, then asks, "What part of Earth are ye from?" Maybe that'll help clear up his confusion. One can hope, anyway.
