Help From the Outside - Motoko and Samus cityship November 7 2009, 04:30:34 UTC
On the outside of the ship, there's someone coming to their aid, in a spaceship, ready to make the pirates' lives hell, by damaging their ship/living quarters.

But the ship has powerful gun turrets of it's own and is considerably bigger.

They'll do whatever they can to occupy the pirates and make their lives hell, but they're facing crazy odds themselves while doing it.

And help came. The Gunship might not be that big, but it certainly is speedy compared to the big, bulky pirate ship. It zoomed around, managing to avoid most damage.

The Gunship flew round the pirate's. No shots were being fired back yet. In a rather impressive maneuver, they flew round, circling the turrets. Got a little present for them.

Happy birthday, it's a cyborg!

More accurately it's a half-ton of Cyborg coming feet-first at a blinding, slingshot speed. The magnetics in Motoko's spacesuit were on and ready, and when she impacted one of the turrets the impact dented it's side and threw off the aim in a way that probably gave whoever was firing the damn thing whiplash. The sound was negligent, thanks to the vacuum, but the shock traveling through her legs was terrific. Motoko ejected a grenade from the magazine and wedged it into the gap the dent her weight had made between the metal and it's housing and moved on.

And as she thumbed the remote detonation switch and felt the explosion through her feet, her expression spun feral. It was good to be on point again.

Excellent job, Motoko. One turret down, only one to go.

Samus swung the ship around, diving back down and unleashing the fury of her own ship's laser systems. It was time to break out the big guns. An apparatus unfolded from the rear of the ship. How nice, Samus' ship was equipped with a functional plasma cannon. A concentrated blast from that... well, it was more than enough to take down another turret.

There were more turrets, but the first were taken down easily enough, though. The Gunship turned, ready to take down the rest down. The pirates, however, were not so ill-prepared as initially thought by the unchallenged destruction of their defenses. Two mommy turrets much larger, armored turrets withdrew from the hull and took the place of the small guns. Now, these may pose a problem.

Muzzles like the mouths of long-range canons swiveled to face Motoko, as if her presence had incurred the wrath of the Gods. Through the visor on her helmet she stared back, then cut the magnetics and leapt as they fired and the red-hot bolt splashed a path of death below her. It was a miscalculation, and would take a few seconds for the attractive properties between the ship and her suit to bring the Major back to her feet again. Linked into the spacesuits dinky control computer by a hard line, she ramped the power dangerously trying to narrow that time...

It wasn't enough. In less than a second they'd have her in the crosshairs again, and she'd die there. Motoko needed a distraction.

Well, can't let Motoko die. Acting quickly, Samus set her ship to autopilot. She launched herself out the ship. Momentum carried her down, crashing into the turret below. The force knocked the system off balance, for a moment at least. Here was your distraction, Motoko!

Perfect. Now with a very large and annoying, bright orange target to focus on the turrets no longer seemed to give a damn about one cyborg in a close-fitting space-suit as she activated her optical camouflage and winked out of view. Finally, magnetized boots impacted the metal at the 'top' of the canon-turret and gave her the leverage to skim down and around the corner, in it's blind spot.

Invisibly she scanned, eyes darting fitfully over the mettalic surface- there! A panel, probably intended for repair access, but it'd do. She wedged strong cyborg fingers under the seam and wrenched. No response save the groan of servos and the trembling of overtaxed synthetic muscle. Not one to be denied, Motoko snarled and tried again, nearly losing her grip and footing as the turret made a sharp turn to follow it's target: Samus. Needing the power, the Major gave one last-ditch effort, dropping the camo in favor of brute strength. Something in her left shoulder popped, the elbow whined unhappily and with an unhappy crackling both her arm and the ( ... )

// Good. //

Samus was a little bit worried about having just about every turret on this god damn pirate ship aimed at her. It was a pleasant surprise that Motoko managed to hijack one of their own. Massive explosions, a combination of the mammoth turrets and Samus' own firepower, erupted across the ship. Quite an amazing display of spectacular bursts upon the outside, a product of the two women genuinely working in tandem to create an amazing work of pure wreckage and destruction.

And the pirates hated that. They hated that they were being destroyed from both sides. They were sore losers and were done with the damage being done to them by the crew of the good ship Stacy. Of course, they had one last parting gift for them.

As the pirate ship was detaching from Stacy, one last huge cannon extended from the front. The Gunship which had mostly avoided the conflict received a front on blast, dealing critical damage to it.

God dammit! Samus was already checking her ship's status. They needed to get back to the hangar FAST. She's ( ... )

// Damn. // Motoko's curse echoing Samus' unspoken sentiment as Motoko tore out her own lead and every other wire in reach with an angry yank. The Turret's control was cut off entirely- it couldn't, or wouldn't shoot a thing.

Moving smoothly, she kicked off, aiming along the same trajectory as Samus. The movement angle was awkward, and as expected the Hunter wasn't exactly taking the Major's needs into account. Hand made contact with an edge and Motoko used the leverage to swing herself more properly against the hull despite the torn arm's useless flopping. She wasn't an expert on this particular technology, but the sparking, blackened metal didn't bode well for health and long lives.

Samus tore open the top hatch of her ship. She didn't even look back at Motoko; she just assumed that the Major would follow. She threw herself down into the cavity, landing with a thud.

Alarms sounded. Warning signs flashed. Bold, red-lettered "Danger" filled the screen. She gripped the pilot's controls and started off to the hangar.

Motoko slipped in behind her without a word and found a place to hang on one-handed. Her left arm dangled uselessly, but she ignored it and the warning notifications streaming across her own vision, banishing each one with careful deliberation as the hanger came into view and swallowed them whole, ship and all under Samus Aran's direction. The airlock came down, and compression of the chamber finished, but the Major let her pilot move out first.

After all, their mission was over, for now.

Samus brought the ship to a rest, a sloppier landing than normal, but what else did they expect. Samus didn't move from her spot, though. She opened up her ship specs, going over and over and over again the damage done.

"Samus..." Oh God, it was actually kind of a relief to hear that voice. "Repairs will be necessary, but I do not require your immediate attention. I suggest you turn your focus elsewhere for the moment."

Oh, right, there was another person in this ship, wasn't there? Samus turns her head, looking back at her 'partner' for this mission. There was something... off.

"Your arm." She hadn't thought Motoko would be injured. It bothered her a bit, but a hazard of the job, she supposed. She makes a small 'hmn' noise. It was not the most concerned sounding noise, but that was about all the insight she would get into Samus' current feelings.

And motoko's raised eyebrow was enough. She'd seen Batou get attached to AI intelligences before, but this wasn't what she'd expected. Even behind the helmet, and unable to actually read the language, reading into Samus' frantic checking and rechecking wasn't difficult in the least.

Of course she knew about her arm. This body had overheated once before, the damage was near-identical and with her pain receptors tuned to their minimum it was only a nuisance. As if she'd never seen such a thing, motoko lifted her stump. In the confines of the space suit the forearm and hand hung as limp as if the suit's glove were stuffed with sand rather than the severed remnants of a prosthetic hand.

"It's nothing I can't handle," Motoko assured her genially, as if commenting on how lovely the weather was this morning.

Samus nodded. It was about the reaction she expected from Motoko. She was a professional just like Samus, after all. She turned back to the display to, of course, check one more time. Her fingers twitched at the keys, but she stopped herself. Adam was right, there was nothing she could do at the moment.

Samus sighed and turned away from the screens, pulling off her helmet.

"Right," She pushed up from her chair. They were done for now.
