Anakin had just about enough. He didn't like this place, he didn't like being taken out of his element and he certainly didn't like being away from her. He had to figure out a way home and it took all of his will power to keep himself from just shifting to a panicked state. In fact he had searched out his master just to get his mind off of things.
He couldn't stop thinking about that Luke guy. The one with the same last name as him. Something was so familiar about him but he couldn't place it. And it was driving him nuts. His irritation was probably going to be picked up by Obi-Wan and even though he looked calm on the surface, he was anything but.
Stepping out to where Obi-Wan was, he almost stormed right up to him, though he was a little taken back by how he was just causally practicing like that.
"Master!" He called out as he approached. "We need to figure a way out of here. Something is wrong. Can't you feel it? I just... we... we need to leave."
He wondered if Obi-Wan had met Luke and if he had suspicions as well. But in any case, he tried not to think about that either... but his aggravation began to show as he started pacing. He looked almost like a caged animal as he stepped back and forth in front of Obi-Wan.
"The people here -- I don't like it. I don't like any of it."
“Calm yourself, Anakin,” Obi-Wan cautioned, gently holding a hand up for peace, “What could be wrong? We’ve only been kidnapped, dropped somewhere the Force only knows how far from home and duty, and set to task we can’t even begin to ask questions of. Believe me, I understand that.”
And here it came, one of those so-condescending little Obi-Wan pauses, the kind that might as well have been a signpost proclaiming an unspoken ‘but.’ Smiling, of course, if ruefully, the placating gesture fell by the wayside, “But, that’s not why you’re so flustered is it? It’s Master Luke, am I right?”
Of course Obi-Wan always knew what was going on, it never failed. But Anakin felt himself calm down a little bit at being around his former master. Just a little though. He finally stopped his pacing and stood in front of Obi-Wan.
Sighing a bit in defeat, he brought up his arms and folded them across his chest.
"How did you know? I just don't understand who this guy thinks he is. I don't trust him. This has to be some sort of trap. I know it is. He was sent here to confuse us or something. But I won't fall for it! I will see past any lies laid before us." He threw up his arms and circled around Obi-Wan before stopping again.
"I knew the separatists were getting brave, but I didn't expect this."
“Do you really think this is the Separatist’s doing?” said master replied evenly, all reason and calming influence, “If they had the ability to disable you and I so thoroughly, why not go after a better target? The Chancellor or a member of the Jedi Counsel, for example? Think, Anakin, I taught you better than that; it just doesn't make sense.”
A sigh, running one hand fitfully over his beard. Of course it would come to this. Luke and Anakin seemed almost predestined for conflict...hopefully his former padawan would manage to keep his temper in check. Anakin never had been the best at restraint.
"As for Luke, he's clearly very strong in the Force, and with the two of you sharing a name it's not hard to guess that you'd eventually come into conflict," Obi-Wan tried for a conciliatory approach, though as usual it came off a little more like a lecture than advice, "What in the world has he told you, to get you so riled up? You're acting like an untrained youngling."
Anakin was just frustrated in himself. He really didn't believe those things, but he was just trying to come up with an explanation for everything and he was coming up short. He didn't have the answers and that went as far as to irritate him.
"I know, Master, and you're right. But most of what's going on doesn't make any sense. This place, these people. None of it makes sense."
Anakin clenched his fist for a moment before trying to force himself to relax. It wasn't going well and he was having a hard time coming to grasp with anything.
"Nothing really and that's the problem. He wouldn't give me any information." He turned away for a moment and stared at the ground. But it was very brief before he glanced at Obi-wan again. "But I can feel something... I don't know what it is. But I feel as if I should know him. It makes me uneasy, Master, highly uneasy. Do you understand? Something isn't right with him." But it really wasn't that at all was it?
"He does seem strangely familiar," Obi-Wan conceded, thoughtfully, "But I couldn't sense anything other than goodwill in him. I can't put my finger on it... That can't be all that's bothering you."
Anakin was so impulsive still, and very young. His knighthood had come easily to him, just like every other Jedi skill before it. Brash, talented...well, he was the Chosen One, after all, wasn't he? Still, this was unlike him, something that dug close to his heart, like-
"Ah," Ben realized, "I see the problem. Be patient, Anakin, not everything comes so easily. Why don't you get to know Master Luke for himself, before flying circles around the idea that he's keeping something from you? I know a defensive strategy isn't your strong suit, but it's worth a try."
"Isn't it enough? Something is off about him and you don't seem to understand!" Anakin instantly snapped. Though afterwords he felt himself calm down a bit. "I'm sorry, Master. I'm just ... frustrated."
He walked a short distance away and glanced off in the direction of nothing in particular.
"I don't really want to know him. I want him to be honest with me. He's hiding something, Master. I can feel it. But I don't know what."
He glanced down at his robotic hand and just kind of looked over it for a moment. "I just, this whole situation has me in a mess. I'm sorry if I seem impulsive. I'm worried about everyone at home. Who knows what is going on without us here. And now we have some strange Jedi to worry about as well? Out of all the dangers we've faced together this one is just too much."
"Rather than worrying about things you cannot change," he advised, "Focus on what you can do here. At least he is a Jedi and not some rogue Sith."
A soft sigh, half exasperated and more than a little sympathetic. Obi-Wan dropped his hand onto Anakin's shoulder companionably, "As hard as it is to believe...maybe he's telling the truth, and where he's really from is our future. It's not our place to know what the Force doesn't tell us, and mark my words, nothing good can come of it. We'll get through this, same as ever before."
Anakin sighed, he didn't like any of it, but deep down he knew that Obi-Wan was right.
He forced himself to smile at his former master. "I know, and I know I sometimes get so frustrated. I'll try not to be so hard on him, but if he isn't up front with who or what he is, I can't guarantee it'll go well. But you are right, we have faced far worse before and we will get through this."
He brought himself full circle, he seemed to to be not as frustrated as before.
"Maybe I'll try speaking with him again. I guess it wouldn't hurt to simply talk to him, right?"
"Of course not," He nodded, and left it at that. Maybe there was some hope yet.
"And don't start a duel with him, Anakin," with that tone it was hard to tell if Obi-Wan's disapproval was genuine or sarcastic, "I won't be the one cleaning up the mess, after."
