Better than video games [Open]

The Sensorium had picked up on her indecisiveness.  Instead of just an X-wing, sitting in a hangar and waiting for her, there was a variety of ships.  The complicated B-wing, a sleek Hapan fighter, the safe and powerful Y-wing.  Mara rapped her fingers against her helmet while she looked them all over.  There really weren't very many ships she ( Read more... )

Batman walks down the row of ships, inspecting each of them in turn. The B-wing's design made little sense to him, but it was clear its x-shaped cousin was the squadron's ship of choice for a reason.

The A-wing, however, looks far more promising. It was far smaller than any of the other craft here, and looked pretty much like a cockpit strapped to a pair of thrusters and little else. Clearly the daredevil's choice of craft.

"Need a wingman?" he enquires.

"Wayne." Her voice bounces up from where she's been checking the A-wing, ducked down under a wing. After a second she reappears, flipping her braided hair back behind her shoulder. Of course she recognized that voice, since he was in her flight. One of the easier ones to deal with.

"Sure, if you're up for a combat simulation. Planning on taking out the X-wing, or are you up for trying something else?"

"Something else."

Give the sensoriums a few seconds to pry the schematics from his brain... and there we go. The Batwing, newly modified to accomodate space flight, phases into view next to Mara's ship. It made sense to test the damn thing in a simulation rather than to wait until you're in the depths of space to find out it isn't actually all that airtight.

He ascends to the cockpit and starts the warm-up procedures, "I'll follow your lead."

Later, Mara would be climbing all over this new fighter. She had never seen anything like that. The gear head in her almost tempted her to go and have a look now, but the engines were already warming up.

Nodding, she pulled her helmet on and made her way to her own ship. Climbing into the cockpit (and trying to not knock her head, since it was a tighter fit than other fighters), she started her own warm up sequence. "This is Rogue 9, showing all green, over."

All of the training had made standard procedures old habit.

You might have noticed a five feet tall afro girl looking at the ships like she'd just walked into into a candy factory. Which wasn't very far from the truth, considering who Lash was. The girl didn't even notice the much taller man close to her and instead focused on Mara Jade, her eyes alight with joy.

"What are these?! One of them reminds me of the stealth bombers we built... Are they dangerous to pilot?" She loved driving anything that could easily kill her.

Mara leans over to stare at the girl. She's getting pretty used to dealing with people wandering in with questions about the ships, whether it's here or in the vehicle bay. It's not like she has to ask for clearance, the military hadn't manage to take over to that level yet.

"There are a couple of fighters here, which one are you looking at. Some of them are pretty safe, others can get you killed pretty quick."

She points at the B-wing, and walks over to inspect it, her grin growing wider. "That has got to be the strangest design for a ship I've ever seen. Whoever built it must have been a mad genius. I can respect that."

"Admiral Ackbar is generally considered a genius. It's one of the most powerful fighters you can find, but flying it is a challenge. Who are you?"

Manners had never been Mara's forte.

Arha had been passing by (when wasn't she?) when she caught sight of the ships. As usual, she was compelled to stop and take a look at each one before flicking a bright grin at Mara. It would do to get more practice in with the X-Wing, though the other ships looked fascinating as well.

"They all look like fun," Arha said, watching Mara circle her chosen craft. "That is A-Wing, yes?"

"Yes. Interceptor, fast but with minimal shielding compared to the others." Mara came back around the ship, smiling at the other redhead. Arha had been very enthusiastic about her X-wing training, and everything that went along with the fighters.

"Looking for some extra practice time?"

"When am I not looking for such a thing?" Arha said with a bright laugh. "If I had nothing else to do, I would be in a cockpit making sure I was not remiss with the day's lessons. I have a free few hours at the least. Such would be best served with a nap, but I am too restless for that."
