Blog: I woke up with song in my head this morning. I just bought the EP from iTunes just this week, even though it is quite an old song. I discovered the Jezabels via the teen show Dance Academy when they used one of their other songs (Easy to Love) in a very emotional-type episode and that spurred me on to find out about their other stuff. I love the vocal style of Hayley Mary (is that really her name?!) and how their music is dominated by piano and drums.  It just sounds so beautiful and rich.

I’m not really sure what this song is about. Relationships obviously.  It seems to be quite heavy in theme; to me, the opening of the song connects to childhood, an absent parent, abandonment with the line “and I remember, praying at the dinner table for you to come around, maybe pat me on the back when you’re able”. As the song progresses I think it reflects that in the present, as an adult, the protagonist of the song has come to expect hurt and abandonment in her adult relationships too. You know, all that stuff about how our parents influence how we conduct our adult relationships yadda yadda yadda… didn’t mean to get so serious this early in the morning.

So anyway, it’s a really beautiful song and not at all a bother to have hanging around in my head. That’s entry number one done! 99 to go . . .
