Feeling into Armenian music

Jul 26, 2007 15:33

I got in the mood for some Armenian music today at work, so I'm playing the Yerevan Nights Radio station online. It reminded me of this music video they keep playing on the Armenian channel on cable. It's a cooperative piece that includes some of the most talented artists coming out of Armenia right now and the song is a very classic piece called "Yerevan Tartsadj Im Erepouni" (You Have Become Yerevan, My Erepouni) [Yerevan is the capital of Armenia, and it used to be called Erepouni].

I dug around and found the video uploaded on YouTube for anyone interested in checking it out. Some of the artists include Ashot Ghazaryan, Hayko (who represented Armenia at Eurovision 2007), Sirusho, Arsen Grigoryan and many more. My favorite part is towards the end of the clip where about 3-4 really young girls sing parts of the song, and the power of their not-even-teenaged voices is captivating.

It's a really beautiful piece and the video is definitely a great piece.
