Obscure License RPG

Ok, this is too damn cool: The Savage World of Solomon Kane RPG.  And it's the same system as the newest incarnation of Deadlands, which makes me one happy dude.

As the page behind the link says, Kane's a Howard creation and probably takes second place in the "Weird Shit What Crawled Out of REH's Head"  after Bran Mak Morn.  Kane's a puritan, according to the books, but he's about as religious as I am.  Also the stories, like much of Howard's work, are incredibly dated, sexist, and racist.  The Kane stuff got so bad that I had a hard time reading it.  Still, if you can get past that it's a really cool world and clearly relates to Lovecraft's works of the same period. It could also have been an early influence for some of the World of Darkness stuff with it's "creepy shit just outside your field of vision" vibe.

Having read just about all the stuff in print by Howard (I couldn't stomach the Bran Mak Morn nonsense), I can say that they're mostly awful stories, but they have really cool stuff going on and are worth reading for their historical value on the "Sword and Sorcery" genre and its relatives.

Wow, this post ended up being a lot longer than I intended...
