Take me home, country roads

As cheesy as it is, this is the song that is constantly in my head as I am tucked away in the hills of Tennessee. I'm visiting a queer "intentional community" called Ida which is very close to the faerie land, Short Mountain where the Beltane gathering is happening right now. I've been over there a couple of times but am enjoying the more low-key time I'm having here at Ida getting to do things that I never allow time for in Portland like gardening and baking baking baking.
This land is beautiful and amazing. Ida has many of the "modern convienences" (I'm on the internet in the middle of the Tennessee hills! how weird!) like electricity and running water but the bathroom facilities are outdoor ones which has oddly been one of my favorite parts of here. The "shitters" are really nice structures that are high off the ground and look like dollhouses almost. When you're using them you're pretty hidden away but you can still see outside. it feels somewhat naughty to be pooping in such a public place.
I thought I was going to have a hard time adjusting to this lifestyle, but surprisingly I just glided in and, if it wasn't for Diego, I'd probably never leave. Its pretty far from any town or city though, which after a month or so would probably get to me, but its sparked fantasies of having a place like this in the woods near portland. someday, someday.
Its good to be here in the middle of the woods, even though its very surreal like the rest of the world doesn't exist. Living out here it would be easy to forget the outside world, even though forgetting and pretending the rest of the world doesn't exist could be both wonderful and extremely problematic.
