Today I'm really happy- supermemo has decided to let me keep doing the Spanish repetitions, without any warning.
A little while ago, they sent around an email saying that my free Spanish course was no longer going to be free. I thought to myself "well that kind of sucks", but it's their website and they can do what they want and it's a really good course, so it makes sense that they'd want to charge me for it. I decided that I would just do a ridiculous amount of the new material for as long as I could until they took it out from under me- thinking that I could do the repetitions as they came up and use them to keep practicing the material I had already learnt (maybe this doesn't make a lot of sense if you haven't used the website before, I don't know).
BUT! When the time came that the "free" subscription ended, they took away my ability to learn new items... AND my ability to practice my old repetitions. I was so sad... now my daily practice would have no Spanish in it (and I was really starting to enjoy the Spanish bits and pieces I was picking up). This was about a week ago now.
I said to myself, "Well, you've really enjoyed this course so far, maybe you should just sign up and pay for it. You're not so poor you can't afford to buy yourself a present everyone once in a while, and if you're paying for it, you'll be less likely to miss a day." But they want 19 (NINETEEN) euros for a six month subscription so then I was all "fuck it" and moved on, continuing to do my free courses as if there hadn't ever been any Spanish on my list.
Today, with no fanfare, no warning... the repetitions are back. I have over two hundred just sitting in my queue, waiting for me to get back to work. This is fantastic. Now I can at least practice and cement the bits that I had covered previously.
And 19E isn't so bad after all, not for something that I enjoy and that is for bettering myself. Maybe in a month, once I've worked hard on getting all my repetition material practiced and down solid, I'll sign up to take on some new material again and learn some more Spanish. I might even buy a new course of the same style for a different language. It's worth considering!
I love you Spanish.
