somnambulating thru the madrid airport

May 18, 2010 07:59

the airport reminds me of amsterdam
a lot of yellow

somehow i understand what people say to me in spanish, how is that possible
-- and yet i cannot understand the recordings or announcements

didnt sleep
was seated with a heavy set man with sleep apnea.
i thought of a woman im close to who lived with and loved a snoring man for 36 years.

this airport is hypersterile, we are all contaminants scurrying thru it, like follows like to each line up for an elevator...

a trio of women, adult woman, her mother, and her sister, who has some kind of emotional illness.
She has no shoes on, the soles of her feet are ash grey, like the skin flaking of the head of the homeless man on the bench next to me. She is in her..?..early 30's? And the elder sister is mid 40s...? keeps saying in a sincere but firm voice, "dont make me call security".
the younger says, you keep saying these awful things to me, i just need some water and the restroom.

Sounds entirely reasonable to me.

somnolence, travel, language, somatica, sleep, airport
