One more revised draft, and probably the very last
Sapphire Birch is the daughter of Professor Birch in the manga, and rival to Ruby throughout most of the R/S/E arc of Pokémon Special/Adventure. Admittedly, this one finally came back to Hoenn just in time to finisher her challenge with Ruby.
Too bad that about 3 years later (so this Sapphire is actually 14) she found herself somewhere else when Surfing. Again. This time it was while helping her dad do some research as she's become quite a handy tool to her father in studying Pokémon and how they react to human development as well as natural disasters.
She still does have a nasty Berserk Button, so one should be careful in approaching her. She takes meds for her Bipolar Disorder that she has.
Its noted she has a heavy hatred of any "Team" (Aqua, Galactic, Rocket; you name it she hates it) because of their inner motives towards the world.
She does seem to like studying books, namely of Pokémon themselves if she's not busy. Indeed, this Sapphire is somewhat different from the Sapphire people know of in the manga as she is a bit of a bookworm if there isn't anything wild she could do.
That doesn't take away from the fact she'd rather swing around trees however!
She also has a full team of 6 that covers all five generations rather well. As she is a bit older, she tries to give advice to younger trainers. This fails at least half the time.
