Paris riots--a great excuse to start talking about the end of the West

Pat Buchanan, who's normally so apeshit I don't even listen to him, is calling the Paris riots the beginning of the end of Western (or at least European) civilization--in the sense of a distinct culture with basically a single long tradition stretching back to Athens. not that you are saying this, but Hispanic immigrants don't detest the west, they are part of the west and have submitted themselves to capitalism in immigrating.

In case you were wondering, the american media is sensationalising the fuck out of the riots and basically, to my understanding, has it all wrong. I haven't been reading, but this is what I hear from others on the program who are up on the the info from US media. I can only imagine the kind of info you're getting over here, but in Paris itself racial waves are not being made, so to speak. This is an issue that is rooted in the kind of institutional racism that exists all over the planet, but the heart of it is not a racist question but one having to do with many more factors. I couldn't explain it to you outright since I haven't had the time to read all the information that's abounding over here, but you should know that Paris is hardly erupting in race riots, and that the measures put in place already by the french government seem to be helping things.
