I dither a lot on my Young Avengers feelings, especially since the first volume was my first proper superhero comic and I have a lot of feelings about it. My opinions are probably at least partly nostalgia-colored. (Volume 1 has its own problems, of course.) For me, at least, there's a sort of sincerity and earnestness to volume 1 that I found very appealing, and the found family aspect of the whole comic was basically like candy to me. Whereas with volume 2 is very -- brusque and stylized and imo occasionally reads a little like it's trying to hard to be exactly what all these crazy tumblr kids wants. (NO MORE GAME OF THRONES REFERENCES. PLEASE.) I did like parts of it, especially issue 6 with Tommy and David, and I really like America Chavez. The comic itself just grates on me the wrong way. It's like mood whiplash. I've recently read some posts by fans who started with volume 2 and went back to read volume 1 and couldn't stand it, so I think the drastic change in tone is really the culprit.

That makes sense. From what little I've read of vol. 2 it does seem very fast-paced and a little bit like it's winking at itself the whole time, which is very different tonally from the older comics.
