after I didn't get the computer fixed

here are the other things I didn't do:

- go to work. And I need to.

- read any of my book club book. They are going to kick my ass out.

- work out.

Here's what I did do:

- talked on the phone.

- bought my friend's 40th birthday presents. This ended up involving trips to four stores, which was a bit much. Started out at Emeralds, the store of girly goodness where I do a lot of my gift shopping. Only partial success, so I headed back to South Congress to hit Gossip. Did a quick look-see in the new store next to Gossip -- I think Gossip just moved its clothes into the new store and left the home stuff and trinkets in the original store. Nothing of note in either. Finally headed to Target. The presents I ended up with are this cool Middle Eastern-looking orange pillow, a dragonfly candle holder and really neat picture frame that 's hard to describe, but just take my word on it. Color scheme of entire gift package inspired by girlonthewire's living room with seafoam walls and orange couch.

- bought myself some new gym clothes, because most of my workout gear was purchased during the time in my life when I didn't want other humans to see my legs and is now totally unusable in this heat.

- bought lots of Diet Coke on sale. Felt a little embarrassed at how happy this made me.

- took everything out of my purse and then put everything neatly back. Like Amelie's mother, I love this little routine.

- daydreamed.

- daydreamed some more.

- and a little more still.

- listened to the Stevie Nicks box set, which I got at a garage sale a few weeks ago, and totally flashed back to eighth grade, which led to...

- the desire to read old journals, which would have been fun if I'd had some from eighth grade, but it was absolutely dull reading what I had to say at 25. This pursuit didn't last long.

- listened to Alejandro Escovedo and remembered him perched on the edge of the stage at Cactus Cafe singing "Pissed Off 2 A.M" when he played there on my birthday a few years ago. Reflected on how romantic I find the song "I Was Drunk" to be and wondered what this says about me.

And now I am about to read Lucky, which promises stories on "the perfect pedicure" and "the hottest shoes you'll ever see." I have no doubt it will change my life in exciting and meaningful ways.
