First teaser for Zack Snyder's (Watchmen, 300) latest wet dream, for the first time based on something he has thought of himself. Well, sort of. It's an action movie described by Snyder as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns", set in the 1950s. It follows Babydoll (Emily Browning) who is ( Read more... )

Sucker Punch. It's like Showgirls, but with more CGI and no Kyle MacLachlan. sensaes July 27 2010, 10:17:01 UTC
Judging by the insane levels of squee since its appearance online, that teaser seems to be turning grown men into fourteen year old boys.

This is not necessarily a criticism.

Understandably so. I only wish Snyder wasn't involved. Let's see what a longer trailer will bring besides the hot girls in schoolgirl outfits.

I think I missed those. (Couldn't see 'em for all the Reign of Fire and Shogun Assassin outtakes. I mean homages.)

Pirates: I do love these movies and the teaser is very cute. I admit, it took me a few seconds to get the joke of "on the mouse" but even so...I can't wait for this. =D

I'm sure it was just a Freudian slip and what he meant was "on the house". ;)

Yep, you're missing the joke that it's a Disney movie and since Disney's most recognized figure is Mickey Mouse, then he was tying in the "mouse" reference with the figure of speech 'on the house.'

I had already been struck by how faithful Let Me In seemed to be to Let the Right One In when I saw the teaser, but this longer trailer really cements it; the remake seems even more pointless than ever. (BTW, is the reason you haven't seen LtROI an issue of access? Because if not, wow do I recommend watching it.)

I noticed a couple of weeks ago that Soul Kitchen is opening near me in August. I'm looking forward to finally seeing it.

Yes, the main reason is access. I obviously could've rented the DVD by now but I'm not that eager to see it. So I'm just waiting until it turns up on TV. And since it's been distributed by a small independent firm it seems not to have entered the usual channel for payTV broadcast so it looks like it takes longer than usual until I'm able to see it.
In general I can see the argument for making a subtitle-free version of a coming-of-age movie. But given the amount of blood present in the film the audience will be older viewers than usual for that genre. And the actors also aren't really household names. So it indeed raises the question why they did it.

I'm pleased to hear that the movie gets a regular (limited) release after all. Too bad there isn't an active journal anymore in which you write about movies you've seen. ;)
