So... Karate... in China... taught by Jackie Chan... brain... imploding...

(Look, I love me some Jackie Chan, but there are so many levels of wrongness here I don't even know where to start. Ouch.)

Details! Hollywood has no time for that. ;)

I also liked to watch an old Jackie Chan movie now and then for the choreographed "ballet" scenes. He's 55 now so we probably should stop comparing him to his old movies. But of course that doesn't excuse some of the transgressions he committed in recent years.

I hear you. I generally liked "Forbidden Kingdom," even though it's as cheesy as all get-out (and is one of the dorkiest examples of the "white kid becomes a supreme martial artist in the span of a few mostly-off-screen training sessions" trope). But... yeah.

The sad part is, I'll probably end up watching this new "Karate Kid". On DVD. Rental. Maybe. Some day. I have no very little shame.

I have little shame either. But I should be able to avoid this one. I'll probably watch something else I will regret instead. :D I should work on a New Year's Resolution to better manage my movie viewing.

There WAS a brief moment in which it was going to be called "The Kung Fu Kid," but they decided to stick to the original title.

Somebody suggested they'll find a way to handwave the title so it's even somewhat relevant.

Someone argued that they tweaked the official description so that it fits: "... In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts "the karate kid" on the floor with ease. ..."

I'm curious if maybe they'll reconsider in the next few weeks.

I can't decide whether I want to shake this guy's hand or punch his face through a concrete wall for that handwave.
