Stop Dr. Uwe Boll
If you would like to stop Uwe Boll from making movies there's now something you can do about it. Apparently he said that
if a million people will
sign a petition he will retire.

While those voters don't necessarily have to be right, I think the fact that he still has three movie in the bottom 100 at imdb (and many more that aren't rated much better) is still a good indication. I suspect that by now it has become sort of a sport to trash his movies but I'd say it's still an achievement. I fully admit that I've never seen any of his movies (maybe one or two that I fast-forwarded through). But judging by the trailers I've seen (and posted) it's easy to reach the conclusion that there are better things to do with my time. The only way I can imagine to enjoy his movies is in the company of a few friends when you're in the mood of making fun of what's going on on the screen.
Other factors that play a role why not a lot of people like his movies are that he finances most of them by using a German tax loophole (now mostly closed) that allowed investors to deduct investments in (even unsuccessful) movies from their income and hence save on taxes. Which means just about everyone with some basic technical infrastructure could make movies the way he did.
And then there's the fact that most of his movies are based on video games which doesn't add any credibility to a director. I suspect that fans of the games aren't particular fond of his adaptations either, though I can't really comment on that.
I think his biggest mistake is that he doesn't accept (at least not publicly) that he produces cheap trash. People would "embrace" him as the Ed Wood of video game adaptations if he weren't so convinced of himself.
Also legendary is this story (from imdb):
"Challenged his critics in June 2006 to "put up or shut up". His production company issued a press release stating that Boll would challenge his 5 harshest critics each to a 10 round boxing match. To be eligible, the critic must have written two extremely negative reviews of Boll, in print or on the Web, in 2005. Footage of the fights will be included in his upcoming film Postal."
He won all fights. So it seems as if he's a better boxer than director. :D
Some more info can be found in his wikipedia entry.

That's right, he relied on the fact that he's so hated to get lots of Internet Tough Guys to sign up, he separated out anyone who might stand up to him in the slightest, he told them all all the way through that this was just a for-fun thing and they'd be playing around, and then, while facing people who didn't know what they were doing and were in lousy shape to begin with and weren't expecting it (because none of the fighters was allowed to watch any of the other fights), he then proceeded to do his best to seriously hurt them.
The dude's petty and vindictive in a way that makes me feel sorry for any girlfriends, kids, or pets.

I already had that impression before but it obviously seems much worse than I previously thought. Thanks.
